Kezza666Smith Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 Hey guys, I have an 84 ke70 rolla and I am looking at putting a 1jz in it as I have on sitting here, I was wondering if anyone can tell me a total cost roughly, can it be street registered on Vic and the good and bad of doing this, Cheers Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 You can engineer it for road use if it is N/A, you wont get it engineered if its turbo. Total cost is an open ended question, if you are paying someone else to do it budget over $10,000. Quote
Jordanrolla Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 1jz wagon can be modplated, but you would be stupid to take some guys word off a forum. Best to check with the correct authorities and find an engineer that will confirm he will sign off on it. If its a case of, ive got a ke70 that I got for cheap and a 1jz thats just sitting around even if you do everything yourself and got all the tools its still going to cost 5-8k (thats what I'm budgeting for) Quote
Kezza666Smith Posted May 23, 2014 Author Report Posted May 23, 2014 No worries, how come so expensive? I was looking at $3000 to have it running a t4 single turbo and also a manual box that's including turbo kit and everything.. The 1jz cost me $950 for a complete soarer that has minor hail damage and the corolla cost me nothing. Am I better of parting the 1jz and putting an sr20 in? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 Is it a wagon or a sedan. If its a sedan you wont get a 1JZ engineered with a turbo. Quote
Kezza666Smith Posted May 23, 2014 Author Report Posted May 23, 2014 That's the 1jz and car I got for $950 Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted May 23, 2014 Report Posted May 23, 2014 (edited) Don't do it. Pick something 4 cylinder or v6 so you can still go around corners. Someone wise once said; Just because you have an engine lying around, doesnt mean it should be installed in your ke70. Choose something that will be road legal and steerable when done. A ke70 with 150hp atw will be as quick as a Soarer with a healthy 1j. You don't need all that power to launch a tiny car. Edited May 23, 2014 by LittleRedSpirit Quote
ke70dave Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Or buy a bigger car to put it in. like an ma70 supra, or even an e30 bmw. Have you any idea on the work required to get it to work in a ke70? Essentially anything that is bolted to the ke70 shell, needs to go in the bin and something custom put in. Quote
Kezza666Smith Posted May 24, 2014 Author Report Posted May 24, 2014 The car is staying if I'm going to change anything it'll be the motor so what would you suggest Quote
ke70dave Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) But for $3000 though, you might get close on the sr20 or ca18 but you certainly wont have the brakes and suspension to go with it. Also depends how much you can DIY. Edited May 24, 2014 by ke70dave Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 Cost me $3K to do a GZE, that didnt include mounts, drive shaft, diff, pedal box, gearbox, etc etc Quote
madKE35coupe Posted May 24, 2014 Report Posted May 24, 2014 heres one I prepared earlier. this one is a full blown racecar though and it still handles like a tank. over 20k went into this one from memory Quote
