sebsta Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 here is the build of our new rally car for the 2014 season although the car is now finished i might as well post it all as rally cars are never finished ! first of all we started off with a red 1981 ra40 liftback missing motor and box .... so one day we came up with the idea of building a new car for rallying and using the ra23 rally car as a track only car .. so we set about work with 100 days until the first rally of the season ! car at the start ... we wasted no time striping the car down ... found a set of neat chrome bars on a parts car that will do the trick , also painted engine bay black started making seat mounts have to notch them into the chassis due to the low roof height .. sebsta Posted April 24, 2014 Author Report Posted April 24, 2014 stripping down the 9.7:1 18RG We then sent off bruce to get the full CAMS spec cage welded in Quote

sebsta Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 thanks guys !! will keep photos coming !! there is also another ra40 liftback rally car in the plans ! thanks for that but i believe between the 16 or so celicas we have enough parts ;) Bruce after getting back from roll cage builders (fabraications in Melbourne ) wasted no time painting interior black ! fresh bored out 18rg block , with early 9.7:1 comp pistons Quote
sebsta Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 recovered cracked dashboard in black suede sanding the body in prep for paint ! painted bonnet black ! for the classic look 18rg being assembled with : 9.7:1 early pistons 88230 early cams (higher lift ) 40mm webers extractors Quote
sebsta Posted April 28, 2014 Author Report Posted April 28, 2014 deleted antenna in high build primer ! Quote
altezzaclub Posted April 29, 2014 Report Posted April 29, 2014 between the 16 or so celicas we have enough parts Good grief! You must have cornered the whole market! You have to ask yourself why they didn't just use one cam chain.. Surely it wasn't too hard to run that chain you have fitted up and over the cams with an idler wheel to take up the slack. I suppose everyone was trained in side-cam thinking back then. So with 9.7 comp and 40mm carbs this is not too serious. We still have Grumpy's motor at the engineers, but I'll measure the comp when it gets back as the pistons were touching the head... Quote
sebsta Posted September 3, 2014 Author Report Posted September 3, 2014 been slack and haven't had a chance to update this build thread ..... after blocking the car back painted it very bright red !! back on wheels and trims going back on Quote
altezzaclub Posted September 3, 2014 Report Posted September 3, 2014 Needs some white! Sigh.... Steve is flat-out this year so we haven't touched ours for months. We'll start again after Xmas. Quote
