ke70kid21 Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 just wondering what do i have to do to put a ca18 in my ke70 Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 Buy the appropriate mount kit from here. http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/67438-ke-conversions-engine-conversion-kits-ke20-ke30-ke70-ae71-ae86/ Mount engine and box. Get a T series diff or custom R31, Hilux etc. Get a custom tailshaft made. Get custom exhaust made. Get custom IC piping made and installed if its turbo. Wire it in. Drive. Quote
altezzaclub Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 Look at your $8000 bank account and think.. "Do I really want to empty that out on my KE70??" Quote
Mechanical Sympathy Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 You'll also likely need a custom radiator and hoses. You'll also need to graft the speedo from the donor car into your dash or rig up an aftermarket electronic speedo. You'll probably need to consider a front brake upgrade. Might as well do the struts too while you're at it. Do KE70's have a passenger side mirror? If not you'll need to install one. Lots of custom work required as previously mentioned so you should probably get a car trailer to tow it around town. Quote
ke70dave Posted December 28, 2013 Report Posted December 28, 2013 (edited) We did ca18 into ae86 a few yes ago. We got the standard speedo to work, If I recall correctly the standard speedo cable plugged right into the ca18gearbox. Give it a google. And the popular Hyundai excell radiator worked well with either standard hoses or slightly modified ones. Google that too. Edited December 28, 2013 by ke70dave Quote
oh what a nissan feeling! Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 I haven't heard the passenger side mirror thing before. Yeh the speedo drive from an earlier datsun gearbox will allow the factory cable ke to plug in. don't forget the hydrolic clutch, although pretty easy with ke70. Quote
Mechanical Sympathy Posted December 29, 2013 Report Posted December 29, 2013 I apologise I take that back. I speedread misread the NCOP "If there is no effective internal rear vision mirror, a passenger’s side external mirror must be fitted;" Quote
ke70kid21 Posted January 2, 2014 Author Report Posted January 2, 2014 i understand that it will cost$$$ but do you guys think its worth it for the power ?? Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 Spend the same amount and put an SR20DET in. Quote
mexr69 Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 i understand that it will cost$$$ but do you guys think its worth it for the power ?? yeah its worth it no doubtguy i know has a ca18det in his ke70 making 263kws on e85 STOCK INTERNALS, Metal head gasket, and arp head studs, CA18 ftw cheap and reliable hes been bashing limiter for a year straight and still takes it like a champ Make sure you rebuild your ca before u do anything to it its a 23yo turbo engine! Once rebuilt goodluck killing it lol ! Quote
the rolla Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 I didn't know if a ca18 would work but from reading this I'm gonna go thro with it cheers rollaclubb Quote
ke70dave Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Problem these days is ca18dets are getting hard to find in usable condition, so you'll have to rebuild them. And for the added rebuild cost you might as well go an sr20det from like an s15, then you get VCT an alloy block and an additional 0.2L and a 6 speed! and all of it is 15yrs newer than a ca18det. Whats an s15 half cut worth these days? 2.5k? you'd be lucky to rebuild a stuffed a ca18det for much less than that. Quote
Jordanrolla Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 I would put a CA18 into my corolla over a SR20 anyday, personal preference Quote
