CorollaNut68 Posted December 4, 2013 Report Posted December 4, 2013 My 5k has pushed 95mph with a stock cam and a 5speed, 4.11 diff. The alternator was over running, the charge light on, 5000rpm. It didn't have anymore and I won't be in a hurry to do it again. Getting nabbed now would be arrest, instant loss of license and 7 day impoundment. Voltage regulator? Even stock they ought to go to 6600rpms with no problem......KB factory redline was 6600, I think K was 6000. I have always wondered though, why the 1100 KB had more factory horse power than any other K they ever made...or rather, why they didn't use the 10-1 comp on the rest of the K's...they kept upping the displacement but the HP stayed in the 70's. snot35 Posted December 5, 2013 Report Posted December 5, 2013 Over the years they changed the way they test and publish horsepower figures. In true Japanese style as they developed things, they were miniaturised and the horses became smaller :P :) Emissions requirements also kicked in and spoiled the fun, so they had to do all they could to get power back. Never mind, it's all easily rectified! Quote
philbey Posted December 12, 2013 Report Posted December 12, 2013 My 5k (high comp, twin carbs, extractors and 2" system) powered KE35 was still accelerating at 100mph. I pushed mine to 105mph, still in 4th, still with plenty of revs and another gear to go. When your 45 year old wagon feels like a zepplin approaching warp speed, that's as fast as you want to be going. Quote
TOMMYS Ke 11 Posted December 15, 2013 Report Posted December 15, 2013 (edited) Thomas 4k/5k combination makes 110rwhp and is real sweet to drive ! naturally aspirated  . A lot of money has been spent  but worth it  have a look at his rides thread ( TOMMYS- Ke11 ). Cheers :- Stuart ( Thomas dad ) Edited December 15, 2013 by TOMMYS Ke 11 Quote
Andy43 Posted December 19, 2013 Report Posted December 19, 2013 I've noticed at about 145kph the window wipers lift off the windscreen, bugger when its wet. We constantily dyno around around 75hp rwh, bigport head shaved 60thou, std exhaust manfold no muffler. varing cams. The rest is pretty stock Quote

That's why they're so much fun, everything feels twice as fast and three times more out-of-control than a modern car! Tommy's motor must be pretty well at the top, if you can get 100bhp/L out of an old motor that's race-car territory of the 1970s-early 80s. The factory works BDA Escorts were getting 220bhp from 2.2L, so 130bhp 4K with transmission losses leaves you 90-100bhp on a dyno. I suppose Tommy's should start at 150bhp to give 110-120 at the wheels. Quote

A little bit of intelligence goes a long way. Quote
TOMMYS Ke 11 Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 (edited) Thanks Stu ! but it was not all my intelligence alone :elvis: there was a lot of help from you  and reading a lot on what has been done before and trying things out for ourselves and luckily it has all worked out just great , and is performing well : :2thumbs: :so with the wright work on these little K motors you can get some pretty good figures out of them and have a lot of fun :rolls: :P :) . Andy43 Posted December 20, 2013 Report Posted December 20, 2013 Someone here once made the comment. The more you work em the better they sound. That what I like about em Quote
megamannz123 Posted February 2, 2015 Author Report Posted February 2, 2015 Spent a little time on the Dyno the other day, made 64kw/87hp at the wheels (6000rpm) we didn't rev it too hard as the tuning is not right. They have an engine Dyno next door and said from experience the power at flywheel would be 83kw/112hp. I have to fix the linkage set up for the twins as they are not moving in unison, once that's done we will have another go and get the jetting spot on as it lean and rich in different places. I'm pretty happy with that really, from a 1500cc its pretty sweet. I still have a bigger cam and twin side drafts to fit so I could well make the 100hp rear wheel I was aiming for! Quote
megamannz123 Posted May 16, 2015 Author Report Posted May 16, 2015 (edited) I was back on the dyno the other day with the new cam, up from 87whp to 95whp @6000rpm. (estimated 120hp/90kw at the fly) We also played with the timing and ended up backed off to 30deg all in down from 34. Still using the twin Aisan carbs but we were limited with the mixtures but had some success with altering the spring rate on the power valve so it cam on earlier as it was lean on the cruise. Power valve opens at about 24kw now. The Dellortos are going on when I get a chance so that will be interesting to see! also I will be fitting solid lifters. I made a little graph to show the difference... Edited May 16, 2015 by megamannz123 Quote
