The Fulcrum Suspensions Coastal Challenge 2004 is being run on the Sunshine Coast on June 5th .  The event is being run in parallel with Caloundra's Falken Tyres Rally Queensland, the local round of the Australian Rally Championship.

The event is a Touring Event with non speed sub-events and both crew members must have a CAMS 2NS license.

Distance will be approximately 240km, with several special tests along the route.  These may include several motorkahnas, skid pan at RoadCraft Gympie and their driver training circuit.  As with last year, it is proposed that a demonstration run over the Mitsubishi Motors Imbil bitumen stage of Rally Queensland will be included in the course.

Navigation will be straightforward using the latest tourist maps of the area.  Instructions may include night run style, tulip diagrams, map trace, map features, grid references and herringbone charts.  The aim is to get all competitors around the course, and the instructions have been prepared with this in mind.

The event will visit the Imbil, the township at the centre of Rally Queensland and finish at approximately 5:00pm on the north coast.

Sup regs will be available early May, Please contact Sheridan at the BSCC clubrooms on 3846 0233 during the day for further information, or to be included on the mailing list.

An information night will be held in the BSCC club rooms at 8:00pm on Monday 24th May.  For those crews “not sure†this will provide more details on the event and also explain the type of navigation to be used.

BSCC would like to thank the event sponsor, Fulcrum Suspensions (Moorooka, Stafford and Nundah) for their support.  Should you need any suspension parts, maintenance, or advice, do not hesitate to contact  Fulcrum Suspensions on (07) 3892 9000

The Fulcrum Suspension Coastal Challenge will form round 1 of the 2004 Grand Prix Mazda MX5 Challenge, with other rounds being the Queensland  Challenge in July and the possibility of a third event in September. The 2004 Grand Prix Mazda MX5 Challenge will be open to crew in a Mazda

MX5, and the winner of the 2004 Grand Prix Mazda MX5 Challenge will be the crew which scores the most points in the events that make up the 2004 Grand Prix Mazda MX5 Challenge.  Signage from the sponsor will be required to be affixed on the vehicle to be eligible for the MX5

Challenge.

Hmm, at this stage I won't be driving, I don't think Hal will be quite ready yet - even if it's on the road :D Unless I can get Hal on the road by very early next month I don't think I'll be prepared to take it out...

Information:

Q1. Where is the BSCC Club Room?

A1. West End (see www.bscc.asn.au for exact location)

Q2. Can HSCCQ Members compete without joining BSCC?

A2. HSCCQ members can compete in ANY CAMS event providing they have the appropriate level of CAMS licence for the event. You know what level is appropriate from reading the supplementary regulations (ie, the "rules" of the event). BSCC especially welcomes members from other clubs!!!

Q3. How much does it cost?

A3. I think it is yet to be determined. However, I would guesstimate it could be anywhere between $60 to $120.

YAY that you're VERY interested!! But, you should DEFINITELY give Sheridan a call on 3846 0233 to answer questions like these (especially Q3) and so that they know to send you the information about the event when they get it sorted. You are under no obligation to enter, but at least you'll have the info on hand.

So is anyone else doing this?

My plans so far (and they may change):

Go up to Caloundra on Friday sometime, day would be nice but would depend on whether me and nav can get leave, probably stay at the Caloudra City Backpackers (from $17 a night for a dorm bed - max 8 people). This was mainly because I didn't really want to carry all my clothes etc in the car during the event but then later discovered Caloundra is also further south than Woombye...

Make the morning drive up to Woombye on Saturday and do the event.

Maybe go to the Classics presentation night on Saturday night (maybe), unsure of cost. I'm assuming this would be at the Caloundra Civic Center.

Watch rally all of Sunday, and go for the ARC presentation night on Sunday ($45). This is at the Caloundra Civic Center, and they have shuttle buses from the Rydges Hotel where most of the competitors are staying. This is about a 5-10 minute walk from the backpackers :) Mel tells me this is rather fun.

Go home Sunday night (if not drunk) or Monday sometime (if can get leave).

Rob & Mel - are you going to the Classic and/or ARC presentation night?

Hi Guys,

We're doing Classic in the Dwarf, and using Redatto for pace note duties. Going to Classic presentation (hell big piss up), and probably ARC as well, (dinner entertaining, piss up at Rydges legendary...)

We're staying at a place opposite Rydges, short grovel home after the party. We're going up Wednesday, coming home Monday.

Should be big.

Ah, so you're going to the Classic presentation too... Hmm, might think about that, don't think we'll go for that though, finances have been all in the red the past 2 months... Damn car... Just out of interest - how much for the Classic presentation night? And you're going for the ARC one too? I wouldn't want to buy tickets and turn up there and not know anyone and look really out of place and all that :S

Have spoken to Haikal now, if he can get leave (I've been more or less *told* to take leave so no worries on my end :)) we'll probably head up Friday sometime, come back on Monday.

Should be good :D

If anyone else wants to do this but doesn't have a nav, I think I know someone who's looking for a driver. He's got licence and is willing to pay his own entry fee.

Gday all,

Fook, we're going to both dinners, Classic and ARC. If you do attend, there is a fantastic chance that you may see an extremely rare sighting of me rat-arsed drunk. Doesn't happen every day. :)

Haha... I was starting to think you didn't drink at all :) I'll see how my money situation goes, but it doesn't look very friendly at the moment... I think I'm getting pretty good at the flick-of-the-wrist-swipe-of-the-little-red-card though :S

Have put in entry form, have booked tickets for Sunday night dinner, have booked accomodation for Friday and Saturday (Sunday pending Haikal getting leave), now I just need a car that works properly...
