Dirty.Mike&The.Boys Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 After much deliberation i have decided to keep my 4k as it only has 100,000 on the clock, was thinking about a Gilmer drive but not at 600 a pop what alternatives are there to the Gilmer drives ? Quote
springersrolla Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Holden, ford or chev 2nd hand one and modify pulleys to suit. Seen them go for 100-150 Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Yeah, there is no 'bolt on' alternative. Theyre pretty much 100% wank factor on a 4k anyway. Quote
Feral4K Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 dab of valvegrinding paste on alternator bearing " WHIRRRRR" lol Quote
19914afc Posted October 22, 2013 Report Posted October 22, 2013 Grab some old timing belt pulleys for any accessory driven items maybe need to buy a crank pulley though. Quote

philbey Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 I reckon wedge belts and pulleys would probably be the best and most straightforward option... Quote
ke70dave Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 What is the point of gilmer drive anyway? You don't need pulley synchonisation on a water pump or alternator. Quote
philbey Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Toothed belts are the most efficient belt for those high-tech types chasing that 0.01% horsepower gain. that is until you dial the tension up so ridiculously high that your granny thinks a swarm of locusts has invaded her kitchen every time you drive past. Hiro Protagonist Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 Toothed belts are the most efficient belt for those high-tech types chasing that 0.01% horsepower gain. So in a KE, almost enough extra power to run your 5W dome light... Maybe. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 I heard on an engine like the 4k it creates a power loss as its less efficient than a V belt. Quote
ke70dave Posted November 5, 2013 Report Posted November 5, 2013 If it makes noise then it is by definition wasting power, as the power is being used to make noise instead of driving your wheels. Mate of mine with a 12a rotor actually has 2 V belts next to each other. like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/42/Keilriemen-V-Belt.png They were OEM belts too, so nothing special ($$$). i thought that was a pretty good idea. That's really just an insurance policy on rotors. Due to high rpm they can sometime flip the belt over and then they don't last long at all, so the second is just a backup. I snapped my single once, half way between hobart and launy at about 1030 at night...sucked the balls. Quote
