Skellington Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) I picked up a 1974 TE-27. I was searching for a first gen celica and missed out on a crazy good deal for a 76, but I am glad I did because I found this one. Some people call these mangos. The guy was super cool about selling me the car. He wouldn't sell the car to anyone. He told me how he denied the sale to other people that were not Toyota or JC enthusiast. Its an auto. 2tc. 4:10 diff. I will have to do some rust repair in the front due to the battery leaking, and a some minimal rust spots around the car. It runs, but needs fuel system cleaned. Needs brake work etc. etc. Its a project. Pics! enjoy: Edited October 21, 2014 by Skellington Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 20, 2013 Report Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) When 'Murica needs new aircraft carriers they modify corolla bumpers. ;) Edited October 20, 2013 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
Skellington Posted October 21, 2013 Author Report Posted October 21, 2013 I picked the car up today and I talked the guy in to including some rims that I think are minilites. We was using them as spares for his other cars and he said the wasn't attached to them, So I figured, why not? The worst he could say was no. Right before I left he asked If I wanted his old 1975's SR5 stock struts. Rather than letting them get scrapped I figured I could make some coilovers for someone. He had the minilites on the car when I arrived, and the chrome rims have tires that are brand new. Quote
CorollaFan Posted October 21, 2013 Report Posted October 21, 2013 First thing to do is replace those ugly bumper bars!! Quote
Skellington Posted October 21, 2014 Author Report Posted October 21, 2014 I started this car for the first time I have owned it. It ran well. The electrical is shot near the battery. An old owner put the leads on the wrong sides. The PO put said leads on the wrong terminals and melted some wires. It was tricky but it started. Now I need to pull the engine and trans so i can weld the frame rails. This will be on the back burner until I can sell my 1968 Ford Torino, and get my other TE27 on the road, and reliable. Quote

Skellington Posted October 24, 2014 Author Report Posted October 24, 2014 Does anyone know what kind of transmission this is? It says 3FC on the tag. My other car that is the same year and model has an A40 (3 speed). What is the 3FC? I can't find any info on it. Quote
parrot Posted October 26, 2014 Report Posted October 26, 2014 3FC is just Toyota code for a 3 speed floor shift auto. I expect you will find it is also an A40 Quote
Doogs Posted October 28, 2014 Report Posted October 28, 2014 God those bumpers are bad! Look forward to your progress mate. Quote

The a40 on my last car was bullet proof. God those bumpers are bad! Look forward to your progress mate. Ya, the USDM bumpers are utter crap. I have the slim one for the front. i am still looking for a rear. Quote
Skellington Posted January 4, 2015 Author Report Posted January 4, 2015 Well my Minilites got referbished and then my wife wanted them for her car. I have looked around to replace the wheels and I wanted to get some 13" for stock appearance. I have 2 sets of the standard looking wheels, but i want something a little different. I got these for a good price from Mr. Santos from 1stGenCelica. His shop was sweet. I proceeded to take the old tires off (one of them was tubed). I pressure washed them, then blasted 2 so far. I am undecided on color. Quote
Skellington Posted January 5, 2015 Author Report Posted January 5, 2015 This 27 has some frame rot under the battery area, but it is all original and hasn't been registered since the late 80s or early 90s. It will be better than new one day. Wheel progress. Insides and back in gloss medium grey and the front is etching primer flat greenish until I decide on a color. This is after I blasted away the rusty half: Gloss grey back color face: Quote
Mechanical Sympathy Posted January 6, 2015 Report Posted January 6, 2015 I've always wanted a set of those steel rims. Yours have cleaned up nicely. They're not easy to find in Aus, as they were only fitted to (some?) TE72's I'd use VHT polyurethane wheel aluminium on them, with chrome dress trims. But we can't get that paint here any more either. Quote
