megamannz123 Posted October 11, 2013 Report Posted October 11, 2013 Hi all, What are you recommendations for stiffening up the rear leaf springs on my ke30? Add another leaf I'm guessing, but from where or what? Any ideas? And to lower it a little a small lowering block is still the way to go? Quote
coln72 Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Get them reset lower and add a leaf if you want (I wouldn't.....). Quote
megamannz123 Posted October 12, 2013 Author Report Posted October 12, 2013 Yeah the ride height at the rear is ok i guess, but its still soft as hell round corners. It need to be a little stiffer. Quote
Mechanical Sympathy Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Any springworks will do. Just call and tell them what you want to get a quote. Resetting and repacking will be fairly cheap if you have them out of the car already. They just flatten the leaves in a press. Adding an extra leaf will obviously be a little more. Quote
Clapped out Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 If your wanting to reduce body roll, a cheaper alternative would be bigger bore/stiffer shocks, cheers! Quote

More to being soft in corners than springs. Are your shocks shagged? Bushes ok? A decent set of shocks will go a long way. Maybe a rear anti roll bar. Quote
megamannz123 Posted October 12, 2013 Author Report Posted October 12, 2013 Yup new shocks, bushes ok. I'm trying to keep it looking original so have pizza cutter tyres, that definitely doesn't help. Quote
springersrolla Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 i am running 2" reset lowered, extra leaf, and superpro bushes throughout. koni adjustables in the rear. still has tramp but its probably a touch too stiff. i guess you play around and see what works for you. depends on what your doing and driving, heaps of shock options, and I'm pretty sure 36-38 wagon helper springs can work for cheap but really depends what you want to do. i think i got away with about $250 for the leafs rebuilt. talk to a spring shop thats there job they know it inside out, they can give you the best option they know Quote
coln72 Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) We reset a pair of springs ourselves using a hydrolic press. Straightened the main leaf so it was 2" lower. Sat heaps lower than this with the weight of the car on it - just off the bump stops. The springs curved the wrong way. Ended up cutting these in half to regain some travel. Felt my 20 was too stiff as I was chasing a lot of oversteer, like third gear looking out the drivers window slides. Removed the rear bar which helped, but still taily on dirt. Softening up the springs by taking out all but two leaves worked well for my purposes. If you search mytoy ke20 you should see some pics of the springs Edited October 12, 2013 by coln72 Quote
Evan G Posted October 13, 2013 Report Posted October 13, 2013 ive got my pack reset and another 2nd leaf/kyb shocks. still floats around like a boat Quote
