mexr69 Posted September 23, 2013 Author Report Posted September 23, 2013 here is my 2 good coronas, i have 4 but the other 2 are just spares, i drive the green rt80 and i'm probs gonna do up the rt81 one day, not a great pic but still, i like the older coronas mainly because they are pretty uncommon, only really like the shape of the 1970-1973 ones though, but still any car done right can look good! yeah i reckon 70 models look alot better, but they are gutless :(!was thinking of buying a rt100 over my rt142 but power is what turned me off  Quote

Feral4K Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 RT80! Looks great :) Heapsa people say its an RT80, but its stamped RT81 on the firewall??? Quote
Mark90 Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 That's strange. Yours has the earlier grille still. I thought the main differences between an RT80 and RT81 were the tail lights, grille (check the difference between yours and mine), and the 80 had drums on front whereas the 81 had disc brake front end. Haven't seen an 81 with the older grille and lights before :) Disc or drum? Quote
glenpos Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 actually, the rt80 is the 1970 model and came out with a 1.5 2r and i think they had optional discs, the 1971 rt81 was the same looking as a rt80 but had a 1.6 12r, 1972 was called a rt81 but has a funny grill with heaps of bars going up and down, looks ugly, then i think the 1973 rt81 is what my blue one and marks are, the later rt81s have square dash gauges Quote
Feral4K Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 12r drum brake front round guages still rt81? front has been upgraded to discs but its definately stamped 81 and it was near on one owner... Quote
glenpos Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 yeah thats right, i also have one, my spares car is the same model as yours, and i have 3 rt81s they are how i know all that stuff, only one of them had disc front, it was the lates model same as marks, dunno why they kept calling the rt81s with a different grill and tail lights and dash but they did,i'll take some pics to show yous when I'm home.. glenpos Posted September 28, 2013 Report Posted September 28, 2013 also the first rt81 that is the same as rt80 had a weird 4 spd with built in bell housing and the shifter comes out the side on a shaft, not 100% sure but think they are called L43, but the next ones have w40 Quote

Haha. Mines an 81, disc brakes, later grille and lights but round gauges. Either way, they're all pretty cute :) Quote
