Raven Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 I've noticed in my KE36 Panel Van (since i first got it), that i can put my right indicator on and the light flashes but when i put my left one on, it doesnt flash on the dash, but it still works. There is also the fact that my fuel gauge isnt working 100% either. So yesterday, Faulksy does pretty much all the work of installing my stereo into the PV and after I left to go up to his place last night before we went out, the left indicator light was flashing on the dash and the fuel gauge was actually registering. What are your thoughts? What could be the cause of it to suddenly start working and then the next time I get in the car it isnt? Thanks in advance Mick Quote
Raven Posted March 12, 2006 Author Report Posted March 12, 2006 Yeah i was thinking earth, but where is the damn earth? I had a good look yesterday...and i suck at reading wiring diagrams.... Quote
love ke70 Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 oh dear. I'm gonna tell a story.... alright! in the ke70 i wanted aircon. so i got the unit regassed and when i picked it up they said the unit doesnt come on when we play with the switch but we hard wired it and it works. theres a wiring fault somewhere that you need to get fixed. so i played around and got it to a stage where it would come on when the fan speed was on 4 but nothing else and the aircon switch had nothing to do with the aircon kicking in or not. then found that when this happened it made the headlights dim, the little indicator lights in the dash glow dimly and the indicators glow. the fuel gauge would run up to full and a whole array of other issues. so off to the auto elecs i go and they say yes, its an earthing issue. so i say ok, how difficult is it. they say "will have to clean up all the contacts everywhere to get it to work properly, a serious job" so i get it back 2 days and 245 dollars later, to find, some issues gone. new ones appeared. so i take it back and they spend a further 2 days effing around with evil wiring and cleaning up this and that they say its fixed. this time it was. on asking what they had done they said they had sand blasted every connection they could find and upgraded the earths because what had been happening was due to the age of the wiring the excess load was making currents run backwards and in general, just go effing crazy. why did i tell you this? because this shows that in my experience of old wiring systems they are evil and the issue, although broadly identified is never locatable. just gotta hope you get it when you do a bunch of stuff :D goodluck mate :D Quote
Raven Posted March 12, 2006 Author Report Posted March 12, 2006 Sounds like i got some fun to be had haha. Quote
faulksy Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 I already told why its fixed Mick. I have skills :D Quote
Raven Posted March 12, 2006 Author Report Posted March 12, 2006 Haha, its not fixed though. It was back to normal, with no left indicator light flashing on the dash and the fuel gauge reading incorrectly again. Quote
Valandor Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 I'm gonna agree with everyone else and say earth 9/10 problems electrical are earth Quote
JiP Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 Abit off topic, but I too have an electrical problem and am not sure what it is. For starters my Hi-beam doesn't work, yet when i dip the lights that works. Then also with the lights, sometimes when i turn my lights off the parkers stay on. They turn off automaticly, but it varies at times, may be after 2,3,4,5 or more minutes. Does anyone know what may be causing the problem?? thanks, Jon. Quote
Raven Posted March 13, 2006 Author Report Posted March 13, 2006 Change the whole indicator/wiper assembly. Sounds like the switch on the end of the stalk is shot to pieces. Quote
Raven Posted March 13, 2006 Author Report Posted March 13, 2006 I think i may have fixed it. Will soon find out once i go driving.... Quote
Raven Posted March 13, 2006 Author Report Posted March 13, 2006 All fixed. 3 Plugs under the dash. Blue, Black and White. They all plug into the main loom. Seems to have been a loose connection. Quote
