Trev Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 We decided to buy yet another 82, this one being very very tidy for its age. The rundown: 85 model CSX. Auto, air, steer. 237000ks. Engine rebuilt at 18****ks - 10 years ago. Very clean interior. New suspension. New cv shafts. New rear muffler. New starter. New rear wheel cylinders etc. I got it with a blown head gasket and found that the cause is a corroded head that overlapped the firing ring on the cylinder, I have another head here at work so it will be cleaned up and put on. The pistons are .5 (.020) oversize and the bores and exceptional. Quote
Trev Posted August 31, 2013 Author Report Posted August 31, 2013 I got all the engine external parts cleaned up and repainted and also flushed out the rad and heater core. The other head vacuumed up good on all bar 2 valves so I will take them all out and clean them up. Some more pics. Quote
carbonboy Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 Mmm, standard Corolla goodness. Even more mmm, fresh engine internals! :) Sweet acquisition, daily driver? Quote
Trev Posted August 31, 2013 Author Report Posted August 31, 2013 It is the mrs new car, the seca is not what it used to be. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I've had 2 of these gems. Unbreakable!! I was brought up a holden man... then ended up with one of these for my first car. Tried very hard to kill her but she just kept going. Quote
Trev Posted August 31, 2013 Author Report Posted August 31, 2013 I have only killed one of mine and that was from it over heating. Quote
67Rolla-Ken Posted August 31, 2013 Report Posted August 31, 2013 I did have a hose blow after several years of abuse. Cracked the head in 3 places... but kept going until I finally had the head rebuilt. Quote
PHATKE20S Posted September 1, 2013 Report Posted September 1, 2013 Did you buy this from Redcliffe by any chance mate? When i first saw your pic i thought it looked very familiar..... Quote
Trev Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 Seats have been cut and the valves faced, now the head just has to be faced. Quote
PHATKE20S Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 (edited) Yeah mate i just missed out on it at the Scrapyard...:-( Very tidy for its age (very first 5/85 model if i remember correctly) :) Edited September 2, 2013 by PHATKE20S Quote
Trev Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 Yeah mate i just missed out on it at the Scrapyard...:-( Very tidy for its age (very first 5/85 model if i remember correctly) :) Yeah the guy I got it off said he saved it from the scrap yard as it was too good to go through. B.L.Z.BUB Posted September 2, 2013 Report Posted September 2, 2013 Imagine all the cars that fall through the cracks. Like those ones in the UK. You got a government payout for scrapping old cars to buy newer models. So many classics going to scrap yards and no legal way to put them back on the road :( Quote
Trev Posted September 2, 2013 Author Report Posted September 2, 2013 Yeah exactly, dad was doing a drop off one day at rocklea and a guy drove in with a valiant charger on his truck that still had tags on it. Quote
Trev Posted September 5, 2013 Author Report Posted September 5, 2013 The engine is now in and running, all that is left are tyres and a bar lens and it will have a ready. Quote
