sinista Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Toyota AE71 Corolla VS Toyota Cressida 1990 2.4 GL Hey guys I very new to this and would like some help/info on my topic .Not to sure if this was covered in another article but here goes My names is sergio and here’s my story So I have a 1984 Toyota AE71 and I have recently decided to upgrade the suspension and brakes. ( you know starting with the basics ) But this hasn’t worked out liked I planned it would I live in south Africa and getting the parts to do the most common changes on the car is near impossible . So I had this brilliant plan to fit the Cressida struts and brakes on my car and for the most of it . Most parts seem to fit with ease .. until that is my car looking as if its launching off a drag strip (but not really J ) Parts list Mitsubishi brake master cylinder 15/16th 2X front struts (Cressida) 2X LCA’s (Cressida) 2X Brake callipers (Cressida) 2X ventilated disk’s (Cressida) 2X original camber tops (ae71) 2X original springs (ae71) 2X new “stock” Cressida damper shocks Set of new brake pads and fluid Misc. bolts and nuts My problem is the ride height its way to high .. and I mean way to high. Could this be due to the stock shock I have ? Before I installed the old struts and new ones seemed to match up in size ? Would the sleeve over kit be a better solution here. I need major help lol Thanks again Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Shorten the struts, use a shorter shock insert and put a coil over kit on them. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 Any good fabricator can weld a coilover sleeve kit onto your struts that will allow you to order the correct weight of spring from any source, and adjust the height. Check out the HSD coilover kit from Otomoto, I'm sure he will ship to you. Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 8, 2013 Report Posted July 8, 2013 (edited) 2X original springs (ae71) The spring base must be higher above the hub on the Cressida. Either the coilover threaded base solution or cut the current spring base off and reweld it on lower down. We did it on the rally car as per the link in my sig. You'll have to make sure the shock will compress far enough down, which I assume it does. 2X LCA’s (Cressida) How do these compare in length to the KE70?? If you take the springs off and reassemble the suspension to the ride height you want, do you get negative camber with Cressie LCAs?? 2X new “stock” Cressida damper shocks How much gas pressure do they have?? That acts to lift the car ride height, a job the springs should do. If it is 50 or 60kg then they will have an efffect, but 10kg would not make a difference. Pop one out and push it halfway down onto a set of bathroom scales then read them as you hold it there. Where in RSA are you?? Do you know the Rolla Club guys in Cape Town?? sinista Posted July 10, 2013 Author Report Posted July 10, 2013 hi guys thanks for the help . So i guess i will either cut or sleeve over then To answer altezzaclub 2X LCA’s (Cressida) they are pretty much the same hieght ,angles bolt pattern ect ..Pretty much a take off your old stuff and put on the cressida parts. Only one change there are two bolts that need to be wide-en but besides that they pretty much the same .(minor difference's) I will do the damper test find the pressure rating can't say that ive found them .i only know of one club here in capetown that i know of it's called " box boy toys " iam doing the brakes and suspention first coz i am hoping to fit a either a sr20det or a good old 4agze. Thanks for the help guys :) Quote
