verde2002 Posted July 1, 2013 Report Posted July 1, 2013 Anyone know which engines will fit directly in my KE20 with a 3KC motor now without modifications to the mounting locations? Will a 4AGE fit? I know most of the Honda motors are interchangable amongst the different models as thay all have identical mounting locations and wanted to know if my Corolla might be that way too. I want to do a motor swap without custom fabrication. I am in Los Angeles so something that was also available in US spec cars so I can find it here. Thank you. Quote
Mechanical Sympathy Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 (edited) I heartily recommend a 5k or even a 7k transplant, if you can source them there. We got them in LiteAce vans here. A 5k with extractors, 1 3/4" exhaust and (standard on the 5k) electronic ignition offers a significant and inexpensive improvement over your 3k. Bolt on your 3k flywheel/clutch/gearbox and manifold/carb (so you don't have to adapt emissions controls from the modern engine) and away you go. There are faqs/wikis on the front page that go into more detail. A 4AGE doesn't directly fit and will cost three times as much by the time you're done - think engine mounts, rear wheel drive conversion, gearbox/clutch, gearbox mount, tailshaft, wiring loom, efi or carbs etc. Edited July 2, 2013 by Mechanical Sympathy Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 (edited) 7K block is wider youll need custom mounts. 5K is the easiest option. Or get a T series. The US got TE21's so It'd be a matter of finding an engine, cross member and gearbox. Try http://www.3tcgarage.com/ they are US based. Edited July 2, 2013 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
Mechanical Sympathy Posted July 2, 2013 Report Posted July 2, 2013 Actually yes, as Reed suggests - I forgot you have more options in the states. Depending on how much you want to spend, a T-series crossmember and engine conversion gives you a 5 speed almost by default and the option to go twin-cam. Quote
