FishEye Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Sup guys... I'm new here and I just wanted to share my corolla... I just bought it 2 weeks ago for $750... Tags expired in 2008 and registration is gonna be another $750 ( currently saving up) . Anyways... It was a total beater when I bought it. Rust everywhere... Horrible fades interior... Black widows everywhere in the engine bay... Toast! But I bought it anyways just because its super rare where I live and decided to fix it up part by part... When I first bought it Me and my friends AE86 4Ac . Yes I drove it around with expired tags... So all I did so far was sand down some rust spots and do a tune up... New wires plugs cap rotor fuel filter. I also took off the valve cover and cleaned then painted it along with the air cleaner... And for the interior I pulled 2 literally brand new te31 seats from the junkyard and sitting next to the corolla in the junkyard was a tercel with a grant steering wheel... Took my chances and took the wheel and boom! It fits perfectly haha... Also installed a new e brake and brake light sensor and e brake cover... Detailed the interior and cleaned up the inside (I know I need more pics) I got the seats for $20 each and the steering wheel with hub for $7 I work for the state referee station (higher smog station) so luckily I can smog the corolla for free... Unfortunately the results were GROSS POLLUTER... Haha the previous owner claims he rebuilt the carb but idk... It's running super rich... I'll prolly have to modify the needle and seat... That's it for now... Oh the left front tire just went flat so I'm gonna see if I can repair it at work tomorrow... Thanks for looking guys! Quote
Skellington Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Sweet! another TE31. Looks like a clean start. What are your plans? You have EGR, so its newer than mine. AC too!- nice. Carb- I had the same issue with the original carb. I could make the car run perfect; so smooth that you could set a wrench on the valve cover and not be worried. The problem was that it was fine at idle, but once the RPM climbed it richened up. I scored a CA legal weber. If you figure out how to get the original carb going fill me in. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) Pretty much every Toyota steering wheel spline is the same. Only issue with some will be the indicator stop thingies are different. Nice little car. Always happy to see them getting saved. :y: Edited May 30, 2013 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote

My plans for it is to restore it as much as i can... I also want to lower it and maybe put new wheels on there.. I also want to try and drift it but I'm not sure if this motor has enough power to drift... But I'm not worried about that now... I'm more focused on getting the carb to run right so i can smog it. Where did you buy the weber carb from? I heard those are good... Do you think a weber carb would help with my rich condition? Quote
Skellington Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 A Weber will help with the richness. The only down side is that the smog legal Webers are no longer made, and are nearly impossible to find. I happened to find mine on Ebay mislabeled. If you went with another Weber, It will make the car run great, but they are not smog legal. Your plans are a lot like mine. Get it legal before major mods. This sucks I wonder if I put a non legal weber carb on there if the smog people will be able to tell... I was thinking about rebuilding the carb but i don't wanna do all that work and find out it still runs rich... I tried adjusting the idle screw and when I hit the gas it just died on me,,, so I adjusted it back to the way it was. I'm kinda just stuck here at the carb part Quote
Skellington Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) Well ... if you have access to a letter / number punch kit you can make any Weber carb look like the one I have. Keep the stock air cleaner on top and pass the sniff test and you would be good to go. Edited May 30, 2013 by Skellington Quote
