mlaser Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Hey All Just moved from Brisbane to Adelaide to start an apprenticeship at the RAAF Base. I decided to bring my car with me to save the hassle of getting to know your public transport system. I spoke to some guys at my work about my car and the dodgy factor of it and they said that it can be a real pain in the butt to register a car here mainly because of the vehicle inspection done by SA transport (dunno what they are officialy called yet). I was told that they are very thorough and well my little dunga although mechanically road worthy has some/a bit of cancer in her and some holes, mostly patches of bubbles. Is anyone on this forum from SA and a mechanic who might be able to give me some advice on what i'll need to get fixed in order to get my car registered down here. Better yet is anyone a panel beater who could help me out with some cheap as possible rust repairs. I've got zero tools with me as my stuff won't be here for a week or two and even then i don't have the tools nor the know how to do the necessary rust repairs. So yeah if anyone can give me some suggestions on where to go and what to do that would be great (and going back to bris aint an option for any smart asses :) ) Also GDAY South Australie people i'm new to your state and once I'm up and running would love to get to know my fellow toyota fans, btw my car is a yellow KE25 which i picked up from an abandoned car auction :), someone loved this car at some stage cause they did a fair amount of work to it (including smashing in the passenger door). So drop me a line and say G'day. Cheers ~MLaser Quote
Raven Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 A family friend is a panel beater who's shed isnt all that far from salisbury plains. I'll PM you his mobile number. Tell him Michael put you onto him with the Corolla Panel Van. Quote
slapper Posted February 28, 2006 Report Posted February 28, 2006 Also GDAY South Australie people i'm new to your state and once I'm up and can't help you with your repairs/rego woes but weclome to South Aust and the joy of working al the way out north at 'cken Elizabeth! If nobody's warned you already, watch out for speed cameras on the roads out of the base to the south - particularly the 80 down to 60 and 50 changes. cheers, Slapper Quote
ScottKE1X Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Would you need a full inspection to get rego?? I know of a guy who brought a bike in from interstate and he just needed a check done on the numbers to make sure it wasnt stolen. He just got it done at the local cops. Although if you have some obvious body problems the cops may force you to go to regency... Alex bates (previous owner of scott hoffman/oke020's ke10) originally brought it into SA from interstate and i believe he didnt need to do much at all to get rego. anyone know more? Quote
Valandor Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 actually if the car was in your name in other state and will be in your name in sa you don't need to get a roadworthy or go over pits only time you need to is if it is changing names. my sister has had to do it before with a vic car that was in her name. they just put it onto sa plates and what not Quote
Raven Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Me thinks Valandor is on the correct path there as my mate went to put a QLD car from his uncles name into his name and they took one look at it and said it'll never get registered here in the condition it is in, hence the need to part it out now. SoulSearcher Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Uhhh when I brought my car from Sydney to Adelaide I only had to take the rego papers to the local RTA and I transferred it...no inspection. Lesley :) Quote
mlaser Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 Cheers for the reply's, muchly appreciated. Now the only thing i gotta sort out is finding a place to live, hopefully will end up in gawler if all goes according to plan, looks like a nice enough place to live. I pick up my car today so if you see a yellow ke25 with "BODGIE BROTHERS" sticker on the back that's me. (Note: Sticker came with car, fits the car in my opinion haha) Uhhh when I brought my car from Sydney to Adelaide I only had to take the rego papers to the local RTA and I transferred it...no inspection. Raven Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Gawler? Talk about out in the sticks. Much nicer places to live are Salisbury East (thats where i am and i have no problems at all), Golden Grove (pricey but nice), Wynn Vale, Para Hills, Valley View, just to name a few. People give us northerners shit saying its crime central up here, but down south is much worse. :) Quote
Valandor Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 so why is it then the 2 times my car got stolen(from town) it got dumped up north.?? south would only be bad when the northernerss migrate :) lets gang up on the westerners... lol Quote
CD_rollaman Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 +1 vote for Valley View. Nice suburb to live in, good views too. :) Quote
Raven Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 (edited) Yes Valandor, but it was "parked" in town, not "parked" up north :) Two words for ya "Christies Beach" :) Edited March 2, 2006 by AE35 Quote
rollin_stock Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I know it sounds an around the block way to do it, but tell them your staying in noarlunga (down south) and get it booked into sturt police shop for number inspection, they don't care, should just check no's and you'll be on your way, but tell them your working till 7'ish so its not too light, that way they'll be hungry and eager to get some food and not look at your car!
