ke70dave Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 I think the problem is, we don't have the power to do anythign about it. so you just gotta work with the system, do your best to not get done. I mean i drove around my ke70 which had questionable mods on it for many years, got pulled over plenty of times, never once had my bonnet opened and the worst i got was a defect for a steering wheel that i knew was not ADR approved, didnt argue with that, took it and i was on my way again. Yet then you hear stories of other people, drive out their driveway and all of a sudden they got a court appearance. gotta wonder what the full story is. Yes the laws are getting tighter and tighter, but be smart about the way you go about things do your best to comply (cops love mod plates, and mod plates are cheap), and keep your uncomplied items on the down low. As for driving like an idiot and crusing cars, the laws sound scary, but just keep it sedate and you won't have a drama. I bet the people that have had their cars squashed were absolute ratbags. The really scary part in all of this, is how impossible it is to find out the rules, everytime you ring DOT you get a different answer, the only real way to get a good answer is to speak to an engineer and get it in writing. Push comes to shove if you have a letter from an engineer that sais your car is good, you got nothing to worry about, and if the engineer was wrong, its the engineer that will get busted, as he was the subject expert. get pulled over, cop challenges you, rip out a folder wtih some documentation proving your innocense, the cop is going to take a different stand on both you as a person and the car in question. I had a folder in my ke70 with my mod plate documentation and some print outs of the rules on certain things (the modification guide etc). never had to show it to a cop, but was ready. 1 Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 So your not worried they'll see your modded k sev with fenders mirrors and boot lip and drop you in the same basket as all the kids out there drifting ke70's? You've lost your licence before, so if that's a judgement that is been made as to whether or not you are a hoon or 'ruining the scene' as you put it, doesn't that concern u? No I am not worried. Its all down to attitude. I don't for one second think that just because these laws have passed that cops are gonna throw the book and use them on every hoon/enthusiast they pull over. I use my car as transport from A - B. Possibly some hills runs. If I did circuits of Brisbane trying to race other idiots and driving like a cock I might be worried, but I don't. Quote
It's_AUDM_Yo Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) I thing i've heard that is the only that constantly works is if you have a loan on the car. Insurance companies have good lawyers and don't like when people threaten to take there stuff. But yeah the bit that annoys me is "illegal modifications" because that generic is ʞ©$ɟ and that the new system is charge first, prove guilty later. Edited April 18, 2013 by It's_AUDM_Yo Quote
carbonboy Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 Personally I think the majority of people who are up in arms about it are generally the people who are ruining the scene anyway. Agreed. I don't have the wide wheels, stupid toys etc hanging off my car, nor is it loud, yet I can drive around Melbourne for an entire month with 300mm high racing-numbers on my rear drivers-side window & hatch glass without drama. The police who pulled up next to me at a set of traffic lights & asked me about them actually thought they were auction lot numbers. They laughed when I told them I'd been competing in motorkhanas & had forgotten to wash my car, then went on their way. Swap my AE80 for an S15 (for example, not picking on anyone) that's lowered, rolling on 19's with stretched tyres, a cannon muffler you can fit your head into & a random toy hanging from the rear bumper, I don't think the result would be the same. When seeking attention from those in the car scene, whether you like it or not you will receive attention from those outside of the car scene. Having said that, if a police officer has seen you behaving like a douche on the road, no amount of pleasant attitude is going to help. Quote

LittleRedSpirit Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) This attitude of acceptance is exactly the problem. People permit these silly laws by being so short sighted. They put themselves on a pedestal as an angel. You may never intend to break the laws, but what if they are used against you anyway? If you all didn't gather it the first time around, the issue is that the new laws can easily be used inappropriately. On innocent enthusiasts, even the ones up on a self inflated pedestal (your pedestal is invisible to police btw). No amount of self righteous self explanation on the road side is going to allow a policeman to see your pedestal. Its really easy to marginalise someone as a fool, then state that your not part of the fool group. Until you meet the wrong pissed off Policeman who spent all of last week trying to catch the local hoon who drives the same type of old car you do, and throws the book at you for no actual reason. Yep, you're actually in the fool group, along with everyone subject to the laws. The fact that people can immediately say it doesn't apply to them and disregard this blatant problem with our laws says more about those who stand on the pedestal than the "hoons" perceived to be the problem. I'm not saying were all hoons, I'm saying take notice cause this effects you and all your mates whether you like it or not, or whether you want to invest any interest in it or not its still a problem for us all. In hindsight I've probably been listening to the wrong people. I worked in a police station this Arvo And discussed it at length and they say they won't unjustly target the ones trying to do the right thing. The aim is to deter idiots doing skids and guys out street drifting. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 (edited) I'm not disregarding it, I am just not gonna worry about it until the police start Tracy Grimshaw-ing every person with 1" oversize rims. Edited April 18, 2013 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
Silverrr87 Posted April 18, 2013 Author Report Posted April 18, 2013 Or am I a bit gullible to think that because these police I met today were nice, they will all lean that way. Haha Quote
carbonboy Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 Believe me, I have no delusions of being an angel. If you've seen me driving when late for work in the morning, you'll know that I don't always obey every rule to the letter. If I was pulled over & had the book thrown at me, I wouldn't particularly like it but would I deserve it for contributing to the problem? Most likely. I accept that laws are the way they are, I don't necessarily like some of them but I don't have a better solution/alternative myself. The funniest part about it all is, we (the public) DO have a say in what legislation is passed & what is gotten rid of. The problem with it seems to be that we (humans) kinda suck at uniting together for change in a peaceful manner. Call me a pessimist, but if people can't even merge into freeway traffic properly, I don't like the chances of banding together to vote for/force the removal of a piece of legislation. Quote
LittleRedSpirit Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 Its all about the people we elect. I wish we would elect a 100% independent parliament. Naive as it is, they have to compromise and thoroughly discuss everything. If government moves slowly on legislation then that's fine, we have more than enough and they tend to rush it in my opinion. Independents tend to be more in touch with their electorates. I don't see their role as providing a constant output of legislation for us to pay on. We already have the system to live by. Someone needs to take control of the Police. Ministers should scrutinise what's going on, not feeds the machine and pass it on. Its all broken. The first thing you should do is withdraw any votes for major parties. Get some grass roots politicians in the right places. Thats where it starts. Shitty laws like this are where it finishes. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 I don't like that 51% of the vote can pass as 'the majority'. Quote
parrot Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 Shitty laws like this are there in an attempt to discourage ʞ©$ɟheads from behaving like ʞ©$ɟheads on the road. I don't want my family or I, or friends, or anyone for that matter, to end up dead because some "legend" thinks he's a drift or burnout king, is desperate to win the "race" to the next traffic light, or because he has ridiculous "performance" mods that render his car a potential death trap. I see the product of stupidity and inattention on the roads everyday, and believe me, you don't want to be there. 1 Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 Hopefully this is what we will see from now on. Quote
Silverrr87 Posted April 18, 2013 Author Report Posted April 18, 2013 I like that. I'd win every time. Quote
