sturo124 Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) hey guys, first time post. I'm currently in the market for a ke70, i just went to look at one and it had a k7 turbo in it but the gearbox was grinding alot, I'm not sure what the reason. hoping someone hear could help? i think its from all the torque going through a k5 gearbox and the gears mashing together (i honestly have no idea :bash: ) if i do buy it what sort of gearbox would it need, I'm assuming w50? will this bolt up to the k7 and where can i get one in canberra? cheers, stuart. mhmills Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) 7K turbo setup will rape a k40 or k50 gearbox with ease. The previous owner/seller is crazy to even think it would hold that type of torque and power. As for what gear box to run, you're on the ball. Run a W50 steel case gearbox, however you will need a K-W bellhousing for it to fit up to the 7K Cheers, Jake. Edited April 17, 2013 by mhmills Quote
sturo124 Posted April 17, 2013 Author Report Posted April 17, 2013 cheers for the quick reply, so is the w50 just an old mechanical celica 5 speed? I'm new to the whole toyota thing Quote
mhmills Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 That's the one, pull it from a Celica. Quote
sturo124 Posted April 17, 2013 Author Report Posted April 17, 2013 cheers mate, how hard is it to find a K-W bellhousing and what would i expect to pay for it? sorry about all the beginner questions. Quote
mhmills Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 I've actually got one for sale at the moment, as well as a W50 ;) I'm located in Victoria though. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 17, 2013 Report Posted April 17, 2013 (edited) From the wiki A KM36 or KR3# series townace van has the K-W bellhousing, these will bolt up to a W series supra alloy box with only a change from cable to hydraulic clutch. http://www.rollaclub...ain/Bellhousing EDIT: Or buy Jakes ;) Edited April 17, 2013 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote

sturo124 Posted April 18, 2013 Author Report Posted April 18, 2013 theres a 99% chance I'm going to buy this car expect some pics soon  now to all the guru; ive spent the day researching about what i need to do to fix this, it seems reasonably straight forward. but I'm going to throw a spanner in the works, locally ive found a whole ke70 for a ridiculously low price to buy as a parts car but it comes with a 4 speed corolla box, the box in the car currently is a 5 speed. will the 4 speed bolt straight up and will it do untill i can save up for the celica box on the condition i don't flog it? and yes, I'm planning on taking the turbo off untill i can afford the celica box. cheers, stuart. B.L.Z.BUB Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 Yeah it'll work. Just don't thrash the car. Quote
Taz_Rx Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 Don't remove the turbo, just don't drive like a dh! Quote
sturo124 Posted April 19, 2013 Author Report Posted April 19, 2013 in canberra to get the rego transferred it has to go over the pits  so the turbo has to come off regardless because its not engineered :bash: Quote
