Everyone loves photos! She got a light skim, 0.25mm taken off & the intake ports received a little love.

As did the exhaust ports, being opened up to match the gasket/manifold, now all clean & ready for reassembly!

More shiny! Crankshaft required 0.25mm (10 thou") taken off all the journals & over-sized bearings to suit supplied.

On a side note, one of the life motto's of the person who last assembled this engine must have been "I MUST SILICONE ALL OF THE THINGS!". The sheer amount of the $h1t I've cleaned off not only mating surfaces, but dug out of oil & coolant galleries...urgh!

That awesome looking red thing is a Toyota Sports 800, or UP15. Had to scroll through a list of every 60's car Toyota made to find it.

It's insanely awesome, and I want one.

Well, I can tell them where it ended up! :laff: Made a mental note to go a little easier on the sealant.

Indeed it is, I believe the owner is a member of TCCAV & brings it out for a drive occasionally to our events. I was implying that the odd car out in that photo was my car, hardly a sports car. :P

Here's some more shots of that one to keep you happy.

Back to the engine build, the block is at the machinists for an acid dip to clean out 25 years worth of crud. The deck surface has some marks from the headgasket in it, so will be skimmed, hopefully only 0.25mm & am yet to hear back on the condition of the bores. I'm aiming to re-use the standard pistons with a new set of rings, so if I can get away with just a light hone of the bores, I will be a happy chappy. The machinist seemed optimistic about this, but time will tell.

Something for you to consider Luke. For every .001"(1 thou of an inch) you go bigger in the bore, will give you .003"(3 thou) more ring gap.

A bit of a bad news, good news update. The bad news is I started assembling the head last night, got up to the fourth valve & realised that I'd been a bit eager to get started & hadn't washed the head properly/blown out with compressed air. I also noticed that I had been so keen, I'd also neglected to put the valve stem seals on. So it was strip it all apart & wash it again, by the time that was done it was bed-time & I was back at square one. Slightly demoralising to have made no progress, but lesson learnt & better than realising after it's all together.

The good news is that I picked up my intake manifold flange from SamQ & also, installed the 20kw power upgrade sticker on the back window. I give no $h1ts what colour it is. ;)

Managed to get halfway through re-installing the valves etc in the head, when I dropped a valve stem seal & in the process of trying to catch it/not stand on it, I managed to stand on it & crush it. :bash:

Called up the shop where I had the head work done, explained the situation & asked if he had a spare laying around. Drove across to the other side of the city & back in afternoon traffic, but worth it. He had not just one but two of the exact same type I already have. Saved my clumsy ass big time!

BT's up on stands out the front, some nasty noises are coming from the front passenger side. If it's what I think it is.....

Edit: Yep, wheel bearing, front passenger side. Bugger replacing both front bearings, just going to FINALLY put TC hubs/struts/brakes in.

Race your daily, this'll happen.

hot shoe shuffle never ends well, atleast you knew what happened to it, unlike the times when you drop something and think you saw where it went....

only to spend the next hour looking for it, not finding it, buying or finding a replacement in the nut/bolt/clip collection, only to come across the missing original somewhere easily seen, just as you finish doing whatever it was you were.

The look on my face when I did it would've been priceless to see! Complete & utter despair, all hope is lost etc. I can laugh now, sure as hell wasn't laughing then.

A short video to show just how stuffed the bearing was:

All of the offsets!

Had a rear bearing go like that on an ex's rolla. Knew something was really bad when ball bearings droppedonthe ground when the axle was pulled...

At least you found the seal with your foot. The old man had a spanner slip from his hand and really started swearing as he saw it drop down an oil passage in my old Falcon. Made it all the way into the sump.

I may or may not have done something similar with a plenum bolt when screwing an ecotec V6 together.... spent hours putting the thing together, only to have this bolt roll straight down one of the ports and jam partway into the cylinder past a semi-open valve (which made picking it up with a magnet near impossible) ended up just being able to grab it with the aid of a big ass magnet on a length of string (normal flexi magnets wouldnt budge the ʞ©$ɟer)

If this is your daily, I take it you are walking to work at the moment? haha
