MattyC Posted March 2, 2013 Report Posted March 2, 2013 (edited) Hey guys after staking out the forums for the last couple of months and drooling over some of these ke70's and the likes I've decided to dip into the scene and buy my own. I picked it up over the weekend, just your regular 84' with the standard 4k and 5 speed box. (The colour is a lot more cream than white) It runs like an absolute dream with only one small bit of rust just above the rear bumper. The engine will be kept maintained and stock for the time being until my current plans are out of the way, any ideas are welcome seeing as this is my first real attempt at making a car my own. :) The upholstery will need a fair bit of TLC as it is filled with fun joys like a cracked dash and dodgy carpet, but I'm currently on my Learner's and am hoping to have the car in good shape for when I hit my P's. The plans so far are just mostly cosmetic with the interior receiving some chop and change and the falcon springs being replaced with something a bit more.. legal. I'm currently trying to source out a quad headlight set and chrome bumpers, along with a beaver panel and the panel between the hood and the windscreen for the flat conversion. (If someone could give me some information on where to acquire such objects or a rough price range that'd be awesome!) This will be a pretty slow build but I have plenty of time and effort to put into it. Cheers, Matty. Edited March 5, 2013 by MattyC Quote
madKE35coupe Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 Good to see another rc member with a ke70 hitting he streets :) looks like a solid starting block too. There are a few places you can find quad headlight conversions. Occasionally they pop up in the parts for sale section in here, you can also try eBay. If you are on facebook add these two guys 'Kay parts' and 'Mohan garage'. They are both from Malaysia and are always selling dx parts :) 1 Quote
B-Lugg Posted March 3, 2013 Report Posted March 3, 2013 (edited) Looks pretty clean. Well done. Should have quad setup - http://www.rollaclub...s/page__st__270 There's a set on gumtree at the moment - http://www.gumtree.c...arts/1010908599 Also, search for Kay Parts on Facebook. Price for the Quads vary quite a bit. To my knowledge 400-500 is the average price for the full kit. For the flat front conversion - Back in Melbourne, I got a couple of sets just from the local wreckers. Will be pretty cheap there too. Price for panels - I have never paid more than $20 a panel (perfect panels). But I'm a bit of a cheapo... Hope that helps. Edited March 3, 2013 by B-Lugg 1 Quote
MattyC Posted March 3, 2013 Author Report Posted March 3, 2013 (edited) Awesome, thanks a lot for the info Blokes. :) I'll be looking into changing the dash soon, definitely going to have to tackle the interior with a stick. So after I finished work tonight I fiddled around with the dash and pulled off the front cover for the original radio and instrument cluster, will have to pick up another one that isn't cracked, a steering column cover and the rest of the dash which sits on top which is really cracked and corroded from 30 years of tanning. (Much like some of the old dinosaurs at work) I found that on the back of the original head unit the wires weren't soldered, I assume I would be able to attach them onto a new head unit easily and have full power? Correct me if I'm wrong because I'm totally inexperienced at all things involving wiring. Also changed the air cleaner with a new one that came with the car. . Edited March 3, 2013 by MattyC Quote
MattyC Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 (edited) Currently in the process of painting bits and pieces for the interior. Also stripped the old carpet. Edited March 5, 2013 by MattyC Quote
MattyC Posted March 5, 2013 Author Report Posted March 5, 2013 (edited) Gave the inside of the car a really good clean and went down to Superjunk and bought some paint and a set of cheap seat covers and started some much needed alterations. New moulded carpet. (From nobullaccessories.com.au) The console and door plastics with a change in colour. (A lot better than the poo brown) And my trusty helper. Edited March 5, 2013 by MattyC Quote
