p3ngu1n3 Posted February 9, 2013 Report Posted February 9, 2013 hey all, looking to upgrade my or mod my rolla a touch...i will be doing an engine conversion to a rotary sometime in the next 12 months but until then i want to do suspension and interior work. i have heard about hilux diffs and would like some feedback on them if anyone has some, i would also like to know about bucket seats and harnesses-any opinions or advice on selecting one...any feedback would be appreciated, thanks Quote
19914afc Posted February 10, 2013 Report Posted February 10, 2013 Can find a hilux diff that should be short enough to use in the 55, otherwise a R31 diff is cheap and easy to get shortened. Plenty of suspension upgrades, have a look around and it can be made to fit but easy to keep to corolla stuff, ae86 stuff may bolt in. Quote
4AGEKE55 Posted February 27, 2013 Report Posted February 27, 2013 (edited) I thought about the hilux diff but they are becoming hard to find, cost a lot when they turn up and the R31 BW diff will handle 600+ HP if built well. There are a few very nice LSD's that can be purchased for the BW centre. 1.5 and 2 way LSD's. They BW diff was also used in V6 Commodores and straight 6 Falcons. Both have a 5 stud wheel pattern but there is a front hub that will bolt on to XT130 struts with I think the Ford bolt pattern from memory. I have flared the rear guards to fit the R31 diff in my 55 without shortening and fitted XT130 struts with Sigma LCA's at the front to even out the track front to rear. I think the commo and falcon diffs are wider. Have also picked up a diff inspection plate from an early E series Falcon which has the mount for a WATTS linkage for $12 off the old friend Ebay. The BW diff obviously never came in a toyota yet I believe it is a better fit. The pinion angle is pretty close to the stock diff and works better than the Hilux. For front suspension there are a lot of options. Most common being XT130 or RA60 based. Yet have a look around the forums and some people are coming up with some very creative and clever systems that are almost bolt in. Edited February 27, 2013 by 4AGEKE55 Quote
