Teddy Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Hey all! Well, today i went on my first offical driving lesson ! it was 2000 mazda 323 - white with duel controles. Kinda fun, a lil scary. But if i can only take 1 thing away from it - it is this. I would be more than happy to drive my car for the next *x* years , than drive a duel controle car / that car for a long time ! - I'm not sure if it was the duel controles that made it weird, but everything was waaay to touchy - and power steering... eeek - ill like non-power steering - so much easier & presise... & get this! - i didnt have 2 use a choke, tap accelrator, let it heat up or anything - it just turned on first go - no fun !!! thank god my car is a pleasure to drive - and now i have driven another car to prove it ! **EDITED - changed from modern car to that car - sorry 4 any confusions!***** Quote
Teddy Posted April 7, 2004 Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 ahh - sorry, didnt mean to generalize, i ment to be more percific and say "the car i was driving" - not all cars - sorry !! I'm slowly getting there - but ill neva get use to duel controles with a bar that sticks into ure lets lol Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 haha i also learnt to drive in a mazda 323, though it was one of those old school ones, the first fwd. there's a drag car that model, it makes me laugh every time i see it, i can just see myself practicing hillstarts in it :D yes new cars are boring and usually quite bland as far as driver feedback goes. my mum has a brand new Mazda3 SP23. it's got like a 126kw 2.3L four, if you have the windows up it feels like the slowest car on earth, despite the fact you're doing 140km/h before you know it. it SO needs an exhaust and lowering. this is why i like old corollas, at least they FEEL quick (tip: lowering your car makes it feel quicker, as you're closer to the road as you watch it wizz past) one of my best mates has an 11 second wrx, its the actual quickest car i've been in, it eats almost anything you meet on the highway or at the traffic lights. but the quickest FEELING vehicle i've been in would be a datto 1200 ute with a stock gze in it, which "only" manages a 14 second pass. damn what fun :rolla: Quote
Teddy Posted April 7, 2004 Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 lol - u have good friends hehehehh yeah, i know what u mean about the rollas ! - personally, i feel more safe in mine - prob becuase I'm more farmilar with how it handels and re-acts - although i still have LOTS of expirence to get yet!! what was every 1's first car here? wel all know mine :D Quote
mumblezzz Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 85 Grey Ford XF falcon Hand me down from my mum, got me round for the first 6 months of owning a drivers license. Big, Heavy and handled terribly. Used to waste skidmans celica :D in a drag though. Sold it off to a mate to fund my first 86. At the time I couldnt get rid of it fast enough, but looking back I realise how much i loved that car. I was actually saddened when my mate i sold it to got it crushed into a cube. I'll miss that car. Best XF ever. Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 bmw 318i, some of us had it hard :D i used to eat CE lancers on a regular basis. up hills too. i sold it because i got sick of things breaking. $97 tie rod ends. $1000 stock pistons. $300 bosch motorsport fuelpump (yes thats what it had stock) Quote
Xany Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 My first car is the one i own at the moment.......the car i learnt in was a WRX impreza sports wagon....:D :rolla: Quote
demuire Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Old cars, new cars... Meh. I've driven a heap of both, throw me a new car anyday... As far as I've concluded, old cars are always like... old cars. They feel like old cars, even old cars with new'ish interiors and big flash engines still feel like old cars. New cars, true some of them are SOOOO blase, but others are SOOO nice :D Car I first learnt to drive in - Toyota Landcruiser Car I took driving lessons in - Perodua Kancil (Daihatsu Mira) - now THAT felt fast even when you were doing 20... Cars I've owned: 84' Mitsubishi Colt - most reliable and cheapest to run car I've ever had 92' Hyundai Excel - absolute piece of shit, sadly the quickest car I've ever owned 91' Mitsubishi Lancer GSR - first car I owned that actually handled 81' Toyota Corolla - most unreliable car I've ever owned. Still fun though 81' Toyota Corona - never ever drove it 75' Toyota Corolla - in bits and pieces in my garage Cars I've driven heaps: Peugeot 405 GTX - gotta love European engineering as far as a "drivers car" goes. Sucked for everything else though. Proton Wira 1.5 - haha, had heaps of fun in this when I was in college. Proton Satria GTi - I LOVE THIS CAR. Pure drivers car. Lexus IS200 - Oooooooh YEAH. Jag S - so fast, so boring... A couple of Mercs... can't remember the models Other cars I've driven (highlights anyway): A whole host of Lexus's BMW 323 Honda S2000 Porsche 911 Nissan Silvia Holden Clubsport HSV ... among other non-inspiring cars like Daewoo Lanos and Mazda 323's etc... demuire Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 I think the thing I like about old cars is that they have "character" - something a lot of new cars lack. Also they are cheap(er) and easier to tinker with... Don't get me wrong, I love my Corollas... But if I had to choose between my Corollas and a Lancer Evo, I know where I'll be going :D Quote
Teddy Posted April 7, 2004 Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 I think the thing I like about old cars is that they have "character" - something a lot of new cars lack. - thats so true ! look at the dawoo matz - its a boring car ! - Fook - OR if u had more money than brains, u could combind a corolla & an evo (6) - Corolro - :D Quote
demuire Posted April 7, 2004 Report Posted April 7, 2004 Nah I'd still prefer an Evo... Actually if I had a bucketload of money I'd also like to have an M3. And maybe a Porsche Boxter S. But no, the Evo comes before all :D And hmm, if I had even more money still I'd probably do a Bill Sherwood and make a 4WD turbo KE35 :rolla: Quote
Teddy Posted April 7, 2004 Author Report Posted April 7, 2004 Swoit ! ultimate rally / drift car lol Quote
Super Jamie Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 i've driven a fair few different cars. i hate fwd but they are easy to control. i stil haven't really got the hang of rwd power over i once took a mates zze122 corolla out for a strap, trailbraking at 120km/h with the back end getting way too floaty for even my liking, and doing handbrakies around my industrial estate (aka local drift zone) and his sister in the back goes "wow you're a really good driver", i'm like "er no" :D i've also driven well over 125000km now, thanks to having my last two jobs driving around fixing crap Quote
