Boosted Posted October 7, 2013 Report Posted October 7, 2013 What's with the little stubby leg in there ? is that because the stays coming rearwards from the base of the main hoop would have clashed with the wheel arch if they went straight back to the node ? Quote
supra2 Posted October 7, 2013 Author Report Posted October 7, 2013 Thanks Reed. Hi Mika. The small stub tube is a bit hard to explain why, I just felt the car needed it. Main reason is because the car now has rear strut towers transfering load into the rear fire wall. The Corolla steel is quite thin gauge, even with the 3mm plates, it just needed the load to be spread over a larger area to help reduce flex. Quote
Tough_little_ke20 Posted October 8, 2013 Report Posted October 8, 2013 Hey mate looking good, do you know of anyone with a rear end welded solid like yours? I'm tring to decide weather I weld mine in or use the rubber mounts, obviously welding would be stronger but will it be noisy and have a lot of vibration, I know it's a race car but I don't want a stupid amount of noise Cheers Quote
supra2 Posted October 8, 2013 Author Report Posted October 8, 2013 don't know of any other welded subframes. I do have a new set of poly bushes here if you want something stiffer than rubber. Fulcrum have a listing for them, but you need to ask for ma60 supra bushes. They are the same as ra65 celica. Quote
Tough_little_ke20 Posted October 9, 2013 Report Posted October 9, 2013 Hmmm been thinking about it all day and chatting to dad about it, decide ill use the rubber mounts, so ill just make up some mounting plates with big 4140 pins and a saddle for more support Cheers Quote
supra2 Posted October 11, 2013 Author Report Posted October 11, 2013 Hey Justin, Have you done a mock up of how the rear suspension will sit? eg, the angle of the A arms with the car at the ride height you want and the wheels and tyres your using. Being a lowered track car, you might be surprised at how high you will have to mount the sub frame to get things like traction and anti squat to work. Front struts now braced to the cage. Quote
Tough_little_ke20 Posted October 11, 2013 Report Posted October 11, 2013 Yeh propped it up on dads aligner, worked out the mounting height etc, gonna make up a camber kit for it to take it from -2.3° back to -1° Quote
supra2 Posted October 11, 2013 Author Report Posted October 11, 2013 I used to have one of those wheel aligners in my old workshop. Havent seen one used in many years. Corolla looks great. Is that the colour its going to be? Iam still deciding how to paint mine. Quote
Tough_little_ke20 Posted October 12, 2013 Report Posted October 12, 2013 Yeh they're good aligners, dad has 3 of them at his work shop (Shepparton front end centre), no room for error with him so no electronic equipment. The rolla will be similar to the original red, this is the plan http://www.rollaclub.com/board/topic/65975-ke30-3sgte-racecar/ Quote
supra2 Posted October 13, 2013 Author Report Posted October 13, 2013 Test fitted the seat, steering and pedals to ensure every thing clears before the final parts of roll cage go in. Quote
