Skellington Posted January 19, 2013 Report Posted January 19, 2013 I put a 32/36 dft 9a on my stock 2tc. this carb is brand new, so nothing has been tuned or adjusted. The car runs but doesnt idle. Where do I start. Here are the jets and adjustments: There are the 4 inside the housing here, and the high idle on the right side: There is a screw in a tube here (blocking the hole?) and under the choke there is another adjustment for the throttle. I have no idea how to achieve idle, but it would be nice to have so I can drive it to the guy that tunes cars. any help appriciated. Quote
altezzaclub Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Make sure the solenoid at the end if the red/yellow wire goes click when you turn the ignition on. What happens if you wind the idle speed screw up as far as it will open the throttle. Quote
Skellington Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 I am not around the car right now. I would like to raise the idle with the idle circuit. The car otherwise runs well enough for a brand new carb. I just have to tap the gas every few seconds to keep the idle from stumbling. Perhaps I could just open the throttle up a little with those adjusters and make it idle ok until I get it tuned. Would make the drive a little more bearable… Wait, this is my corolla I’m talking about, I love riving this thing regardless. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Was it jetted to suit your motor? Quote
GJM85 Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Gotta love emission controlled after market carbies. Electrically heated choke, Fuel solenoid, Float chamber vent valve, Fuel return check valve, Sealed idled mixture screw. Emission controlled carbies run marginally leaner than others so increasing idle richness can help with drivability, if you can access your mixture screw... The idle speed screw is probably your only friend.... Quote
Skellington Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 The idle speed screw is probably your only friend.... Which screw is that? Quote
Skellington Posted January 20, 2013 Author Report Posted January 20, 2013 (edited) Was it jetted to suit your motor? Yes. The kit was made in 1980ish? (32/34 DFT 9A) They made this kit back in the day specifically for the 2tc and 3tc engines. Perhaps someone who knows Weber Carbs can tell me the technical names of each adjusting screw. If I can get this I can use Webers tuning guide. ( http://www.carburetion.com/weber/adjust.htm ) If not ill have to look up some diagrams and see if I can figure it out. GJM85 Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 Idle mixture screw should be at the base of the carb. Probably has a tamper proof cup over it. The idle speed screw will be on the linkage where your accerlator cable hooks up. There the only adjusts you have. Everything else will come down to jetting. A complimentary picture. Quote
Skellington Posted January 21, 2013 Author Report Posted January 21, 2013 I ended up bumping the high and low idle up till it barely ran (like a tractor). I drove it after putting my home built linkage system on it. Now I have to wait for a tuning shop to be open so I can stumble my car down there. To see more of what I did click my thread link below.
