jamesrolla Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 hi every one just got a very cheap 4a motor and 5 speed box yesterday how hard is it to fit one of these into my ke11 has anyone done this conversion or the 4age one into a ke11 what mounts and gearbox cross member would i use will ke38 brakes handle the upgrade and is it much of a performace upgrade from my 4k 5 speed which is pretty standard to cheers james Quote
Jason Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 your going to have to farbicate some engine mounts. but berfore you go crazy with the welder get out you mesuring bay because as you know there limited room so make sure you mount it senably. You going to have to do the same with the Gbox member. I'm not a ke1* experct but I'm going to assume you going to have to upgrade you diff J Quote
jamesrolla Posted February 18, 2006 Author Report Posted February 18, 2006 ok i was thinking of upgraging to a ke20 welded diff because the ke10 ones seem to be as weak as piss do these motors have much power and will my down draught weber and adaptor plate from the 4k fit in it or do i need a different adaptor plate cause the caby on this motor seems to be an asian unit like the standard ke20 one i had on it before Quote
ScottKE1X Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 James, I bought a write-off ke11 ages ago with a 4A-C in it, the motor is currently in my ke30. All i want to say is, although i learnt alot doing the conversion, in hindsight i probably would have kept the K series and just worked the motor... unless you upgrade to a 4age later. The car i bought had a freakin custom firewall but this is not necessary, as jason said, if you place the motor properly. you'll need a custom tailshaft too. the ke11 i had was engineered and it only had ke20 disc's, standard rear diff and brakes BUT it did roll 3 times into a tree so take that into consideration... Also, Ae71's came with 4A-C's and the brakes on them wouldnt be too dissimular to the ke38 and the ae71's weigh a fair bit more. Scott. Quote
Jason Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 the 4age will hammer in a Ke11 there like what 700kg Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 I think he meant a 4A-C lol, why not just stick a 5K or something in it? Quote
jamesrolla Posted February 19, 2006 Author Report Posted February 19, 2006 I think he meant a 4A-C lol, why not just stick a 5K or something in it? i would if i could get them cheap enough but no body in tas has1 for sale so the only way i can get 1 is from just jap and they want like $1050 so its a bit cheaper than what the 5k costs and even a new set of 4k extractors cost's more than what i paid for my 4a and 5 speed but i will keep lookin Quote
Trent-KE30 Posted February 19, 2006 Report Posted February 19, 2006 Lol fair enough, Get the 4A-C all setup and when you get some money just slot a 4AG in it. Quote
jamesrolla Posted July 1, 2006 Author Report Posted July 1, 2006 is there any problems in doing this conversion, like the sump and the exhaust, the T50 should fit in my manuel ke11 tunnel, i am planning on getting some engine mounts from thomo, can u get a single dellorto side draught manifold to fit on a 4a??? i have done a diff upgrade, its a ke20 borgy, brakes are ke55 front and ke20 rear, is a ke20 radiator big enough to keep it cool for 4 fast racing laps at symmons plains with a thermo fan on it?? what clutch master cylinder should i use, ive got a datsun 1600 one if that is any use??? is a 4a a much heavier motor if so, will my ke10 front struts with ke20 springs hold the extra weigh, if i have anything wrong tell me what i should change cheers Quote
