WillAnton Posted December 17, 2012 Report Posted December 17, 2012 Hey all, Let me start by saying that I put the "rat rod" in quotation marks as that this word has been basterdized and I realise that what I'm referring to is not actually a rat rod. It's just the generally accepted term now. Anyway, having recently watched the latest mighty car mods ep, they rust up an old golf to give it the rat rod look. My question is, is this legal? I know it would be a beacon for the police anyway, but as long as you're not breaking the law that shouldn't be a real problem. Just annoying I guess. Has anyone done this or have any experience with these types of road laws? Quote
ke70dave Posted December 17, 2012 Report Posted December 17, 2012 I watched that mighty mods episode as well. I was quite suprised how well that turned out to be honest! especially how much they spent on it i can't think of a way it would be illegal as such, but i can only imagine it will attract the wrong attention. 19914afc Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 For rwc something like that would pass, it's pretty much only if you have gaping holes and bad rust in structural areas. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Yeah the only issue would be that its a 'pull me over' look. Quote
WillAnton Posted December 18, 2012 Author Report Posted December 18, 2012 The thing is. I bought a run around for the princely sum of $280. Now, having only spent that much on the car, I figured I can have some fun with it and do something a little unusual and possibly a bit stupid. Figured this would be a cheap way of doing so. Agree with all of you. I imagine that the only way it could be defected would be if it had structural rust (although I think I'll look into before I go ahead with it). Plus...there is the danger of looking a bit of a douche. Quote
rian Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Plus...there is the danger of looking a bit of a douche. Indeed, IMO intentionally rusting your car is the most retarded trend to come out of the modifying scene ever. Quote
19914afc Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Like whoever owns that nissan painted the whole thing in that rust paint shit, even the plastic? bumpers! Looks stupid, really if you want the rust look get a ʞ©$ɟing rusty car out from some farm if you want that look. Quote
parrot Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 There are rules about how close holes are to suspension, floor and seat/seatbelt mounts etc, but surface rust wouldn't fail you Quote
altezzaclub Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 get a ʞ©$ɟing rusty car out from some farm Once you get into the real Australia beyond the Sandstone Curtain it is astounding just how many thousand cars there are on farms. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 the most retarded trend to come out of the modifying scene ever. Dildo shifters and sticker bombing Quote
towe001 Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Indeed, IMO intentionally rusting your car is the most retarded trend to come out of the modifying scene ever. Unless the car in question is an excel running around toowoomba here with a rust painted bonnet. Even the driver looks retarded. Quote
Trev Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Fairly sure that 'rust' isn't considered as a vehicle colour. 1 Quote
towe001 Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Yep i'd have to agree with you Trev on that. Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Yeah i remember something about colour labelling too. It makes your car a two tone with an unidentifiable colour, don't hold it as gospel but might be something you wanna get checked before you do something silly hahah Quote
