hi guys,

just after some help before selling one of my 4 age's.

i have 2 4age redtops. one is the higher powered redtop, 7rib block(all red lettering) and one is lower powered redtop, 3rib block(black and red lettering).

i was just trying to find out whether or not the 2 wiring looms/ecu are the same?? or if they are different??

Edit: ^beat me to it.

The 3 rib (black and red lettering on the inlet cam cover) is probably a bigport, whereas the other 4age will be a smallport. So the wiring will be different.

so the wiring is different on both engines?? and is it only different is using the original inlet manifold?? or are other parts of it also different.

i noticed the flywheel is bigger on 7rib also.. so that one is bigport? not smallport,

and is there many other differences between the 2??

when buying parts what car would it have originally ben out of??

thanks heaps for the help guys.

Smallports have a bigger flywheel (212mm), bigports have a smaller flywheel (200mm). But the flywheels are interchangeable so this may not be the best indication.

Smallports have a knock sensor I believe? bigports do not.

Smallports come in AE92s, bigports come in AE82s.

If one is bigport and one is smallport, the wiring will be different.

If you really want to figure out which one is which, look for a TVIS plate like Reed said or pull the manifolds off and check the port sizes.

I originally had a 3 rib bigport in my AE86 before pulling it out and installing a 7 rib bigport. From memory (it was years ago), whilst the wiring is the same, the plugs are different. The later engine having the later style plugs. This means that you need to use the correct sensors for whichever loom you have. Early sensors don't fit the late loom plugs. In my situation I retrofitted the early sensors to the later engine and used an early style loom.
