Hey guys

So i put my diff back in the corolla today after welding on the new shock tabs and mounting the shocks and iv noticed its tucking aprox 9mm more than the other side, what could be the reason for this, could it be the car just needs to be rolled a bit to centre itself? or could it be something more sinister :/

cheers guys

Morgan

If by tabs you mean spring mounts and your diff is 9mm off centre then this is a problem and the car wont just straighten itself out. You'll be crabbing it down the road and it'll bounce all over the place at high speed.

i had the diff mounted in there before and it was fine, it had no shock absorbers mounted to it though so all iv welded on are the small eyes for these, I'm presumming your talking about the pads the leaf springs sit on? if thats the case these were already on there before when the car was sitting fine so those can't be the issue, is there any other factors that can cause it to sit like this? havent had a chance to roll it yet and see weather it will come right as my driveways up a hill and its an absolute mongrel pushing it back up the drive

What does 'tucking' mean? Is it lower on one side than the other??

Are they gas shocks? If so, swap them over side to side & see if one is softer in gas pressure.

Did you take the diff out? In which case leave the bolts slightly loose and drive it a little to get everything into its relaxed place then tighten them. If you can't drive it yet don't worry about it until you can. Don't forget that you only do suspension bolts up when the car is sitting on its wheels after being driven.

The rally car I'm working on was 20mm lower on one side than the other... didn't seem to worry it.

9mm further to one side than the other,or 9mm higher on one side than the other?

Have you had the springs or shackles out or renewed any bushes? Are the U bolts in the same spot as before?

sorry guys should have been more specific and didnt quite write it correctly, its sitting 9mm further to one side than the other, height is even between the 2 sides, when i removed the housing i only undid the leafs at the rear and dropped them down, rear leaf bushes have been replaced but the front ones are factory

Drop it again & loosen off the leaf pack bolt in the middle until the thread just goes inside the nut and smack the leaf pack with a hammer on each side. Not very hard with the hammer, you just want them to sit in their natural position. While yuu're in there look at the setup where the diff locates on the top of that leaf pack bolt & make sure that is all OK and straight.

I helped Chris with his Landcruiser ones, things were pretty bent... That's a crowbar (hardened drill rod actually) he is bending to pull the leaf over to the shackle! All something to do with it losing a wheel at 100kph..
