oldie Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 My question is how far can you upright a 4k before you need to do any other alterations such as adjusting the oil pick up,sump, etc. Quote
snot35 Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 Are you looking to do a half upright? :) Quote
philbey Posted October 18, 2012 Report Posted October 18, 2012 Not much, if at all. The stock sump pickup can be a little prone to brief starving as it is, uprighting will only compound that. Why do you want to upright anyway? Quote
oldie Posted October 19, 2012 Author Report Posted October 19, 2012 Fitting the engine in another car and the carb almost fouls on the suspension and the ex. manifold could use a little more room to fit the pipes so thought that if I upright it about half way it would give me clearance. Quote
philbey Posted October 19, 2012 Report Posted October 19, 2012 Hmm. Simply put, it you're going to the effort to half upright it, you might as well fully upright it. Quote
oldie Posted October 20, 2012 Author Report Posted October 20, 2012 A morris minor that has hydraulic dampers as part of the suspension and they are mounted in the engine bay Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 20, 2012 Report Posted October 20, 2012 Once you upright the engine wouldnt you need a custom exhaust manifold anyway? Why not just make one to work with the room you have, same with an inlet manifold? Or is that not an option? Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 21, 2012 Report Posted October 21, 2012 Just get an A12 out of a Datsun, that's the usual Morrie substitute and it is already upright. What are you going to do about the carb angle?? They will end up at a funny angle that will have the fuel in half the bowl. Quote
oldie Posted October 21, 2012 Author Report Posted October 21, 2012 The 4k will fit in a minor,it is done quite often but yes,the datsun is the more common conversion. It will fit mounted at its proper angle but it just makes the transition of the exhaust from the manifold very tight, often people fit custom made extractors but I was looking for an easy out,how lazy of me!! oldie Posted October 22, 2012 Author Report Posted October 22, 2012 certainly is plenty of room if you are going to fab yourself custom extractors etc. but if you try to use the original ex. manifold the angles the engine pipe has to be to line up with the original manifold outlet are quite extreme,I know this because I already have a 4k set up in another minor and that was my main issue.Just thought that by uprighting a little I could reduce the angle and use an original exhaust. By the way, nice pic,I like how you set the alternator up. Quote
frosty Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 trying to use the existing exhaust manifold is doomed for failure By the way, nice pic,I like how you set the alternator up. Quote
altezzaclub Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 dammit every 4K should have come out like that! Alty on that side, beside the battery (sitting on the chassis) & upright! Quote
kickn5k Posted October 22, 2012 Report Posted October 22, 2012 Is that your build Frosty?? Would really like to see a photo of the bottom mount. Quote
