mdw003 Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 So I got this little Ke16 from perth earlier this year, and have been meaning to get a progress report on the go Soooooo I flew over to perth and did a deal on a car I had never seen before ( I didnt even know Ke16s existed :hmm:), put it on a truck and flew home, 2 weeks later it arrived at the depot (70kays from me) so I figured it would be easy, get a mate to drive me up there, get in car, drive car home..... If only it was that easy. This is how it was when I got it This is the car overheating for the 8th time on the way home haha, turned a 1 hour trip into a 5 hour trip :bash: Once it was home it lasted 3 days before the sump gasket let go (in a spectacular way) and covered the engine, engine bay, trans & tunnel, diff, springs, well you get the point. so that was the point of no return, this little 4k needed a birthday Due to work and various other things that get in the way of fixing cars, it slowly got cleaned and tinkered on untill the start of this week, I was given a 5 day roster break, so it was time to mosh on this beast in the last 5 days I stripped the engine cleaned, replaced and re gasketed everything I could get replacement parts for, cleaned and repainted the engine bay, took all the chrome off and polished it all and painted the rad support, in doing all of this I have found 1 small surface rust patch so I'm stoked that its that clean so now we come to today, i wanted to atleast finnish getting the motor in and some of the small things hooked up, but a mate came round so we knucled down and got it in, plumbed, wired, lubed and fired in next to no time I tried uploading a video but its to big, so I put it on youtube, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SVupUe0_NA&feature=g-upl This is just out of the headers on stale fuel but its a massive modivation. now I know your all thinking it's easy, but this is the first time I have done anything like this. so I'm chuffed with how far we got. It will sit as it is for a week or so then it will be another few days putting the front end back on, and getting it ready for crusing this summer. Thanks for taking the time to read through, And if you guys want to know anything or have any advice for me please feel free to comment. Also a big shout out to pmp16 for hooking me up with some tail light lenses :y: :y: :y: , cheers again mate they look sweet 1 Quote
mdw003 Posted October 10, 2012 Author Report Posted October 10, 2012 Got my new wheels blasted and painted today, $20 a rim, now just need to get tyres with the right profile to clear the struts, ill put up some progress photos tomorow, may need to get less agressive lowering blocks for the rear, it got stuck reversing off of the ramps at the workshop  Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 10, 2012 Report Posted October 10, 2012 Welcome to the KE1* wagon club. Not many of them around. Looks awesome so far. This makes me want to lower mine. Quote
mdw003 Posted October 11, 2012 Author Report Posted October 11, 2012 Cheers mate, if you plan on lowering them remove your spare wheel carrier, that's my problem. I'm slowly getting it done, todays jobs are: exhaust fitup, Thermo fan (fab up a mount and fit) pick up my new wheels and put the front end back on.... ill keep you posted Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 I pretty much want mine to sit like yours with stockos, hubbies and flappers. The ke20 struts give way too much track so I need to sort out that before I can go low. Quote

B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 What size lowering blocks are you using? Or are the leafs reset or flipped? Also what rim size are you running. Really liking the way this sits. Quote
mdw003 Posted October 11, 2012 Author Report Posted October 11, 2012 as of the new photos its got black mazda "13s with 65profile tyres, the photos with the white walls are the standard 12" rims with cheese cutter tyres on them its got 3" blocks in the rear, and 2 1/2 reset springs in the front, and thats it, Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 Cheers for the info, mine will be very low, very soon, hopefully. Quote
mdw003 Posted October 11, 2012 Author Report Posted October 11, 2012 low and slow mate, thats my mantra, at its lowest point the body sits 14cm from the ground, but the spare carrier is only 7 or 8cm so it makes driveways interesting I had a look at your wags, its a lot cleaner than mine mate, just needs to be brought down to the earth a little more ;) Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted October 11, 2012 Report Posted October 11, 2012 I agree, I love cruising at 90kph on the highway. Slow as will be better low as. I just sorted some stock 13" rims so now all I need is blocks for the rear. Quote
