Hey everyone, can anyone tell me what gearboxes these are.

The first one is a 5 speed and I am pretty sure it is a k50

The second on is a 4 speed but nfi what model it is, and have not been able to find a picture of one similar to it anywhere. I have tried every possible search on google images and in these forums, but no luck.

They are both from a 4k engine and have identical bell housing bolt patterns, the extension housing bolt pattern is a lot different however and appears not to be interchangeable.

They both look ke30/55 shifter position.. the top ones much bulkier though..

I'd say top is ke55 and bottom is ke20 at a guess

Edit, that top one is weird.. don't think I've had a K gearbox that bulky before.. almost looks like an auto box but it's not..

If it's a 4 speed attached to a K engine, it could be a K40 gearbox.

Give this a read. Even if it doesn't help with your current problem, it's still interesting :P .

Cheers, yeah I've had a read of the wiki, but just realised I had myself confused, the bottom gearbox is the K50 not the other way around (as per the image on the rolla club wiki).

Ok so now I really need to know what the top gearbox is cause I need to find a shifter assembly for it as the one from the k50 box is a little smaller (about 5-8m between bolt hole centers in both directions).

Oh and the shifter position is the same between them too

Anyone got any ideas? :hmm:

What Jono said, he's on the money.

So the smaller 4 speed is a k40 and the larger 5 speed is the k50?

In that case we need to update the image on the wiki page cause it is showing the smaller as a k50 which is what was confusing me lol

Or do the k40/50s both come in 4 and 5 speed?

K40 denotes 4 speed, K50 5 speed. There are different kinds of both as older to newer corollas had different shifter positions so the shifter housings are different.
