altezzaclub Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 The holes in the LCA won't line up if you bend the castor rod along its length. You'll have to bend it in an "S" shape or elongate the front LCA hole. Still, its the easiest solution. ...or just get rims with a better offset. Moar Dish!! Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 I have a question, your AE86 power steering arms fit the bottom of your strut? And these struts are stock KE70 items, sorry just trying to clarify something Quote
Adrogen Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 Struts are AJPS xt130. I do still have my old ke70 struts with caster rods still on them, maybe I could get them "S" bent. I guess my problem is that stock rods are only long enough to be straight. Quote
ke70dave Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 perhaps there are some other castor rods from other cars that are bent? and are long enough to be bent? Whats does an xt130 castor arm look like? or any of the other coronas in the 80s/90s? might be worth scouring the wreckers for something. Even if you have to redrill the castor arm hole in the LCA thats not a big deal, just don't do it too close to the existing holes... Quote
Adrogen Posted September 27, 2012 Author Report Posted September 27, 2012 I have ke70, xt130, st141 and rt142 caster rods and they are all about the same (may actually be identical, not sure) the ones on the car in that pic are xt130. Quote
ke70dave Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 hmmm... I would be a little hesitant in bending it, as they work in tension and compression, putting in a bend will only weaken it. you could bend it and put in some reinforcing, but then you might struggle to get enough clearance. tried it without the lock spacer? perhaps you just have to live with a bit less lock. 1 Quote
It's_AUDM_Yo Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 Longer LCA's or better offset wheels as per what others have said. Quote
rian Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 tried it without the lock spacer? perhaps you just have to live with a bit less lock. ^Was going to say that. You simply have too much steering angle, I'd ditch the lock spacer. Quote
It's_AUDM_Yo Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 You can never have enough angle! Quote
Adrogen Posted September 27, 2012 Author Report Posted September 27, 2012 You can never have enough angle! I did have my heart set on being "legend of the u-turn" (AJPS) Quote
RainWarriorDregs Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 i'll take that lock spaceer offyour hands if you want :) Quote
Adrogen Posted September 27, 2012 Author Report Posted September 27, 2012 I grabbed some washers and packed the wheel up one by one, to see how thick a wheel spacer would have to be to clear the caster rod. A bees dick over 6mm. just for curiosity does this mean a 14x7 +2 wheel would fit here? Quote
ke70dave Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 Assuming the current wheels are 14x7 +8 then yep, to stick out 6mm more it neesd to be 14x7+2. dare i say it, 6mm slip on spacer? Quote
Jono.C Posted September 27, 2012 Report Posted September 27, 2012 Yep, 6mm slip on spacer, set you back than $20 a pair Quote
