Adrogen Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Need help with my ke70. The front tyres hit the caster (tention) rods when ever you try to turn all the way left or right :( I can't believe how little info there is on this problem seeing as though it is a common setup ke70 ae86 PS knuckles MA61 wheels with 195-45r14 tyres AJPS lock spacer. Note: the tyres have plenty of room between them and the body back and front it's just the caster rod that they hit. Thank you for any help you can give, Adrian. Quote
Adrogen Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 just a pic showing it hitting the rod but not the body. Quote
ke70dave Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 How much castor have you got dialed in? Quote
Jono.C Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Space the wheels out away from the castor rods, either with extended/ longer lca's or bolt on spacers Quote
Adrogen Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 none "dialed" in, the caster adjustment was slackened right off until there was no load on the LCA to install the sway bar links with out any huffing and puffing then caster adjustment pulled up to about the middle of its thread for a starting point ready for alignment. Adrogen Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 has XT130 LCAs so it's already longer :/ no room left with the fenders Quote
Adrogen Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) will winding the caster back and springing on the LCA bushings pull it away from the caster rod??? a little worried about my safety at higher speed with very low caster angles... ke70dave Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 ma61 wheels are apparently 14x7 +8 sounds to me like the combination of the slightly positive wheels, lock spacer and ps arms creates too much lock and the tyre hits. You could weld a lock stop onto the LCA to stop the steering arm going to far. its quite possible that everyone with this setup rubs the crap out of their tyres on full lock. Quote
TRD ke70 Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 (edited) We had something of the same problem, but ours rubbed on the chassis at the back. Setup is Sigma LCA's, AE86 PWS arms, no lock spacer, and 13 x 6 rims with 195/70 rally tyres and a quaife quick rack.. Face it, you'll have to remove some lock out of the steering or change your rims. Edited September 26, 2012 by TRD ke70 Quote
Jono.C Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 If it's a street car he's right ^ If it's a track car just lengthen the lower control arms to buggary, more track to push the wheels right out.. Or look into dog legging some castor rods Quote
Adrogen Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 yeah I had started to think about caster rods with a small kink in the right spot, has anyone done this? seems like a perfect solution if it could be done... car will be registered so need to keep things looking neat. Quote
Adrogen Posted September 26, 2012 Author Report Posted September 26, 2012 grabbed this pic from the net and circled the "banana caster rod" perfect thing if i could get it. Quote
Jono.C Posted September 26, 2012 Report Posted September 26, 2012 Yep, That was what i meant.. Either that or try a different wheel/ tyre size Quote
