hey everyone, picked up a 5k for my ke26, and it has been semi converted to solid instead of hydraulic lifters and what not, i am keen to finish this conversion, could somebody please tell me what lifters and pushrods i need as i found that the solid lifters out of my 4k were too small in diameter to fit the bore on the 5k block for the lifters, also the pushrods seem too short,

also if i use the 5k head, with 4k rockers will that be ok?

cheers, i am pretty clueless by the way hah

If you have a 5k with deep dished pistons you'll need a 5k head with a shallow combustion chamber. You will also need the lifters and pushrods to suit.

If you want to use a 4k head you'll have to get the shallow dished pistons. This will also allow you to use the chev lifter and datsun a12 pushrod combination.

Yeh that will be easiest, it is possible that you've got a hydraulic cam profile as well. I don't even have a full set of hydro lifters I could sell you unfortunately.

There are other options for solid lifters though, I'm sure some people have done it.

Are the hydro lifters as shit as everyone makes them out to be? Or will they be right in a fairy worked 5k? I also have a 4k head and rocker gear sitting there if someone could tell me exactly which Chev solid lifters and pushrods I need. Kinda keen to start making some progress

You need holden lifters. Pretty sure you want the 186 solids or 202 but they are usually anti pump hydraulic lifters. Thats actually what ive got and can say they work fine with solid cam.

The pushrods your looking for are from a datsun A12 motor.

Nb: this combination wont work unless you use a 4k or 5k shallow piston head which will mean you will also need the shallow pistons. There is a 6mm difference in head heights which affects the pushrod length.

No, hydrolics are fine. Used to run a reground 5k cam with hydrolic lifters with no issue. Just gotta ask yourself how many revs do you want to pull. With the standard 5k gear, I had the shift light set at 7500rpm and would regulary exceed that.

IMO changing to solids is a waste of time and effort unless it is an all out race engine.

"everyone" is mostly people who've never run hydraulics on a hot k engine. I also run hydro, massive lift, very aggressive cam, twin sides and it flies. 7k rpm, no problems. At a massive 68kw it's one of the gruntier NA 5ks out there haha.

So yes: they will be suitable.
