love ke70 Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 (edited) well, being the idiot i am i decided that "yes, i will go to uni" so i enroled into my bachelor of engineering thingy and am majoring in mining. so after spending a few hours workin all the bs out i was finally enroled and left it at that as i can't set up my timetable yet. i was prompted by a friend to check my booklist as she was having a whinge coz hers is 400 or so dollars....well lucky me! mine comes to a grand total of...... $1175.55 yes, over 1000 dollars for just 11 pissy books. and thats just for my first f@$king semester!!! and 10 of these i have to have :D the other one is a "helpful but not necessary text" so it looks like all my savings will now be dumped onto a bunch of f@$king books rather than the 1ggte :y: is it me, or everytime i try to do something thats supposedly a good idea for my future i end up geting f@$ked over by some more shit and in the end all my plans end up sprawled across the floor spitting teeth from their bloodied mouth? makes me wonder why i f@$king bother really. SoulSearcher Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 (edited) Well you can look at the short term effects, such as they are, or you can look at the long term advantages...a degree, more employment options jobs with higher incomes, more money for toys..... So while $ may be a bit tight now (and spent on things that you hadn't expected), at the end of it all (think sacrifice for my future now, benefit later) you'll have better prospects and more money to do the 1GGTE conversion. Have you thought of seeing if the books are available second hand or on ebay or http://www.textbookexchange.com.au/home.php or http://sufface.net/links/online-bookstores...-books-oz.shtml He who dies with the most toys wins ..... Corolla_Kid Posted February 6, 2006 Report Posted February 6, 2006 What uni? I'm doing engineering at uq this year but aren't so sure what I'm going to major in. Haha my books are only like 800 or so. Quote
Biggo Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Well yes it might be every time you make plans for your future it all goes pear shaped! But HEy, who cares, you a a 1ggte powered 'rolla so what use is a future? Quote
love ke70 Posted February 7, 2006 Author Report Posted February 7, 2006 He who dies with the most toys wins ..... :D thanks lesley, that first link is awesome, looks like ill be saving about 50% on most books, and ebay has turned up trumps for a math book, 10 isntead of 115.... i know it is better in the long run, but ive been putting off progress for so long, saving funds, making plans and then BAM all gone again. corolla kid I'm at UQ St Lucia, I'm guessing you are to? going thru the list i realised 2 of the books had been repeated, so new its not "only" going to cost 950, hopefully ill wind up with it costing about 400. that i could deal with, still f@$kin sucks tho :y: firm believer university libraries should have the books for students to loan. well biggo, i wouldnt give a toss about the future if the rolla was actually powered...at the moment it just looks pretty and gets alot of looks frm kids walkin down the street. MAYBE one day ill be able to run them over :( Quote
Biggo Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Run them over!!!!! Do it i say befor they key your car. And fwiw - study SUCKS big hairy dog balls with the aidz.... Quote
Corolla_Kid Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Yeah f@$king gay keyers they can suck big hairy dog balls with aids. Yeah I'm at St. Lucia too probly see you round Quote

brapn7 Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 lol; tell me about it... i get my booklist this thursday.. can't say i'm looking forward to it! Quote
Jelly Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 Most Uni libraries do loan out text books, but as they are in high demand you can only borrow them for like a day...but then the other half of the text books you can only access IN the library, you can't borrow them out. When I started Nursing last year, my first semester text books cost almost $800...and although they said we needed all of them, I still have maybe 3 or 4 still in their plastic wrapping. Also look on your uni website, in the classifieds section (if they have them), coz people are always selling their textbooks. I mangaged to get a book scholarship this year...a whole $250 that can only be used in Lismore...wow, lotta good that does me seeing as I moved 12 hours away! It will buy me like 1 and a half books! Wahoo! Quote
Teddy Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 1G or Uni? Screw the car.. Get the piece of paper, and once you have a REAL job, getting REAL money, then do your 1G / go crazy on it :y: Uni ! :D Quote
love ke70 Posted February 7, 2006 Author Report Posted February 7, 2006 is it just me or has rollaclub gone crazy and none of the little pictures and smilies and stuff are loading? might just be my ghey capped internet so anywho cheers for the responses guys, corolla kid, u gotta wear a shirt sayin "i love my corolla" so i can recognise ya :y: sorry to hear about the car too, nasty assholes jason, what are you planning on doing? u can buy my textbooks if I'm done with them :P brapn7 can't you get yours online? with mine i could? When I started Nursing last year, my first semester text books cost almost $800...and although they said we needed all of them, I still have maybe 3 or 4 still in their plastic wrapping. my mum, who is now a theatre nurse told me the same thing, said she had many books which she didnt use, and in her last semester didnt buy a single book, simply photocopied relevant chapters, thats really not my style tho I'm so gonna apply for all the scholarships i can, the 1G needs some lovin :y: teddy: get your priorities straight dude :( but seriously, i wanna get the rolla up and running so I'm not pouring dollars away into the fuel tank when i don't need to be, and then after uni when I'm livin in the middle of nowhere earning squillions i will be making the 1g uber powerful and taking her for test flights along the roads to nowhere :D *sigh* dreams and anyone buying books for uni, ebay is the shizz i found a 78 dollar book for 5 today with one day left and a 115 dollar book for 10 with under a day left with that second one, the ISBN's are identical except the last 2 numbers and the title, author, edition and everything are the exact same, only thing different is they are printed 1 yr apart. I'm petty sure these will be the same, what do people reckon? cheers guys Quote
Dan Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 They will be almost the same I think, providing they are the same books (essentially), anyway, don't take my word for it, I'll most likely be wrong. Stop scaring me I gotsa go to uni soon too.... Quote
love ke70 Posted February 7, 2006 Author Report Posted February 7, 2006 yeah i figured the same dan, front cover is prob the only difference lol soon.....how many yrs is it to go now? its a good idea really, i just can't accept it as it sucks in the short term, but mining engineers average 70,000 first yr outta uni and there are jobs going for 120k for 3 yrs experience...woot! more than my parents earn put together 3 yrs outta uni.... anyone wanna know why i wanna be a mining engineer? Quote
Dan Posted February 7, 2006 Report Posted February 7, 2006 How come you wanna be a mining engineer? Lol, jk. Haha two years to go now buddy, i think... actually its probably closer to three. f@$k that, I'm just waiting til i can get my licence! Quote
