84Co-Rolla Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 finally took my ae71 4ac for a drive, had to go and buy a new battery as the old one was screwed. put the new battery in fired straight up and let it warm up for 20mins, sounded fine as i got it tuned like a month ago but as i took it for a test drive it just started to run like shit, skipping beat and i just don't know whats wrong with it. would it be that it hasnt gone for a drive for like 3 months? any help is appreciated! cheers, aaron Quote
rian Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) How long has it been sitting for? The fuel might be old and shitty. Edit: Just read it hasn't been driven in 3 months, I'd be replacing the fuel. Edited August 19, 2012 by rian Quote
84Co-Rolla Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) almost 2 to 3 months since i filled it up last? edit: yeh it might be old fuel, ill go get some tommorow and do i need to add that lead additive to it? might even be a timing issue! ill freshen it all up with new leads and spark plugs. 84Co-Rolla Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) just tested cylinders and the fourth isnt firing, also a milky oil cap so I'm guessing the head is cracket/gasket :( Edited August 19, 2012 by 84Co-Rolla Quote
Trev Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 Not necessarily, it is most likely just moisture from sitting around, sort out the 4th cylinder and give it a good run to see if the oil clears up. Quote
84Co-Rolla Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) puts my mind at ease^ haha ill take the spark and lead out to see if there is any spark or if the spark plug is wet, when engine is on. if wet then head gasket Edited August 19, 2012 by 84Co-Rolla Quote
altezzaclub Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 (edited) if wet then head gasket Not really.. if the plug is misfiring for any reason it might come out wet. Check all the plugs and if one is wet then swap it with a good cyl and try it again. If the missfire stays at that cyl then swap the lead. if it is still on that cyl then do a compression test... maybe a valve has jammed open from corrosion.. The head gasket usually fails between cyl 2 & 3. Edited August 19, 2012 by altezzaclub Quote
84Co-Rolla Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 ill give it a try tommorow morning, and ill update then, hopefully its just a lead or spark plug! fingers crossed haha Quote
