01sik Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Just wondering what other Toyotas come with a 22 spline tailshaft that will fit an adm t50, there's a few older corollas and such at my local wreckers and its proving to be a PITA finding a 22 spline tailshaft otherwise, just don't know where to look at the wreckers lol Quote
altezzaclub Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 Possibly Celicas or possibly Coronas, both of which had T motors overseas and you might find an import. There is even a Lite-Ace van at my local wreckers, but minus motor & gearbox. Where did your box come from?? Are all the ADM AE86s & AE71s using 20spline? I'm mulling over the T box change, so I'm also trying to find out which car to raid for which part. Quote
rian Posted August 16, 2012 Report Posted August 16, 2012 (edited) As far as I know A-series T50s (AE86, AE71 etc) are 22 spline, and T-series (T18, TA22 etc) T50s are 20 spline. There are a few variations of 22 spline tailshafts. -AE71 tailshaft: 22 spline T50 gearbox to Borgwarner diff, tailshaft does not have a centre flange. -AE86 ADM tailshaft: 22 spline T50 to S series diff, front and rear halves of tailshaft can be separated via a centre flange. -AE86 JDM tailshaft: 22 spline T50 to T series diff, front and rear halves of tailshaft can be separated via a centre flange. However, T18 tailshafts go from a 20 spline T50 to T series diff, front and rear halves of the tailshaft can also be separated via a centre flange. AE86 JDM, ADM and T18 tailshaft front and rear halves can be swapped around to suit whatever gearbox or diff you feel like using as the centre flange is the same. Edited August 16, 2012 by rian Quote

01sik Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 Hey guys cheers for the replies, I'm getting closer lol, I've got a adm sprinter box with a 22 output but bought a one piece tailshaft off a mate which was a 20 spline one, but I have seen pics of it in his box (which he recons its a t50 and its probly an older one if infact it is a t50) so pretty much back to sourcing a tailshaft :( or even just a yolk getting it balanced and such isn't a prob, cheers for the help, keep it commin haha Quote
01sik Posted August 17, 2012 Author Report Posted August 17, 2012 But the tailshaft I have with the 20 spline input bolts to a ke70 borgy diff :S Quote
rian Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 You have a KE70 tailshaft, KE70 manual tailshafts go from a K50 gearbox (20 spline output shaft) to a Borgwarner diff. Quote
tojo2 Posted August 17, 2012 Report Posted August 17, 2012 Isnt everything after 1983 22 spline. + some 82s as long as its t40/50 Quote

Paul Posted August 18, 2012 Report Posted August 18, 2012 Series two T18 are 22 spline. Where are you located? I recently had a local tailshaft specialist do my tailshaft for the pano (has a 22 spline T50) and the yoke itself brand new was only $80 and actually has a bigger replaceable type uni as opposed the the original type which is piened in. I had already done a uni change on the original shaft and over time it got further and further out of balance so I'm glad I got it done professionally before the circlips vibrated loose (they don't mate flush all the way around due to the shape of the original casting). 01sik Posted August 19, 2012 Author Report Posted August 19, 2012 Hey Paul I'm in hervey bay qld, 3 hours north of brissy , there is a place in bundaberg that cut and balance tailshafts and such, but old mate reckons the adm and jdm pin sizes in the uni are different diameters and he didn't really seem too keen on going any further with the conversation lol :( who's did yours I'm happy to make a day of it if I have to come to brissy to have it played with (the tailshaft that is :D) Quote
Paul Posted August 19, 2012 Report Posted August 19, 2012 I had mine done locally down here in Melbourne, I can help you organize getting the yoke, uni and front of shaft (other part which uni fits in to, welds to tube) through the shop I used if you get stuck. If you have all the new parts I'm sure your local bloke can do the job for you. Quote
