what is wrong with people in the world these days?

we have 3 kids (between 6-7 years old) and wanted a better lifestyle, so we moved from suburbia to out in the country so our kids could frolick in the back yard, without annoying others. now we live on the outskirts of a country town (Laidley) and live on acreage, but it is worse than suburbia ever was....

for example, up the back has 6 dogs which often bark at us and the kids minding our own business in our own backyard. they even come into our yard (through the fence) to provoke our dogs. the yard two over to our left has 3 dogs, and they constantly seem to bark and be at war to the 6 up the back (their yards adjoin). now the yard to our right has 2 dogs which often bark needlessly, not to mention the grass which is a major fire and snake hazard being over 6 feet tall in places, and also the fact that he (an older gent)plays music loud to around 8 or later at night.

for xmas, our kids received 50cc two stroke mini quad bikes, from their grandfather. now it is something, that us as parents didn't necessarily approve of, with the risk factor and noise (which is no different to your average 2 stroke whippersnipper or mower). now 2 months on after xmas we get a letter from the council that neighbours have made a complaint about our kids riding them. they would have on average have ridden them 2 times a week for under an hour at a time since xmas. this has been after 5.30 in the afternoon, in the coolest part of the afternoon, coming inside before 7.

now we have had one neighbour actually approach us about it, over a week after a complaint was made to the council...ten days after the last time they rode them. from the information we were given from the council, we are within our rights so long as it is between 7am to 7pm monday to saturday, and 8am to 7pm sunday and public holidays.

we don't really want to upset neighbours, but think that so long as we comply with local council bylaws we should just be left in peace. we could always sell the kids bikes, but how do we explain it to them....local busybodies made us do it? at least they are not riding them all day up and down the road. why can't people just mind their own business and let kids be kids?

(i am seriously considering sending this to the local papers....what do you guys think?)

thanks guys... it has been a bad week (most of which i haven't mentioned yet).

not sure what to do as yet. need to get a final ruling from the local council and go from there (might chase it up more tomorrow). we live near a town, but i think we are classified as a rural property. if it is favourable, i guess we will stick it up the old farts which have complained. otherwise, we will have to sell the quad bikes the kids love so much. :P

i'd consider moving further out, but we just signed a 12 month lease the week before this crap came up.

really at the end of the day, you really want to make the kids happy, so if it comes down to a fight for them, i guess it's on.

why not call a current affair? Even if they are biased pricks and they really only do it for the ratings they still do help, if they take it to tv, people are gonna know, and support you, and that will put the council under pressure, and force them to take action before people start rioting, you are dealing with people who only give a shit about themselves, and if someone else does something they don't like they go and bitch to someone about it, so get the other side to join you, people who bitch to support the innocent, ie you :P

Our ex neighbours used to live in a shed furtherest side of their block from us. We built our dog run on our fence line and they were cool with it as our dogs were quiet. When the time came for them to build their house they built it right next to our dog run. Later they complained about our dogs barking, the only reason they barked was cos their stupid kids used to throw rocks over the fence at our dogs. They went to the council and we were told to move our dogs even after explaining the situation. Some people just have no respect!

I know we've had a noise complaint about our dog, and ive had a noise complaint :P from the f@$king stupid neighbors who can't shut the f@$king dog up at 11 at night, so when mum not home and it barks, up goes the volume. f@$k em

If you plan on living there for the next 12 months, it would be in your best interests to not start a HUGE fight with a bunch of neighbours.

Nothing worse than neighbour wars.

And the neighbours are probably sitting there thinking the exact same about how unfair the noise from the bikes is. People generally only see their side of a problem.

I'd hate to live next door to people and know that they hate me, and are at war with me, and will stop at nothing to get their own way....it's just not worth it.

I understand how you feel... one of our neighbours in Kelvin Grove had a dog that barked 24x7. Royal pain in the ass.

Note to self:

* When moving, check that neighbours don't have dumb ass mutts to drive you nuts.

Why punish the kids because your neighbours are a bunch of tools. Youre within your rights to make as much noise as you want within the bounds of sound restriction laws, so they can't do shit! You should make complaints about all of them - their dogs, the grass (which is a huge fire hazard in the heat of summer).

I don't know much about living in rural areas, Ive pretty much lived in the middle of housing estates, so obviously we encounter a lot of noise (probably our own fault for living in such populated areas), but even people there are bastards! All the bedrooms in my new house are along the same side of the house...regularly the 60yr old bitch next door gets up at 6am and starts gardening, digging so loud it sounds like someone is banging a basketball against my bedroom wall. Then she'll hose, frequently hitting the metal fence which seperates our yards, she then goes inside, turn her radio up loud, finally gets in her car and sit there revving it for a good 5-10 mins.

Sundays mornings are the times when she stands in front of our house before 7am talking at the top of her lungs to people walking their dogs, right in front of my mums bedroom window. Not to mention her dog, who sets off the dog on the other side of her, which sets off our dog, 24/7. The other morning they started at 4am. People are gay, stab them with forks.

Because ACA are vermin, and when the revolution comes, the Producers of it will hopefully be first against the wall. Followed soon after by Today Tonight.

Doug, I feel for you. Comply to the letter of the council by laws. Your kids deserve to have fun as much as any others.

thanks guys.

i agree. people are strange. i can't believe how so many people just let their dogs bark needlessly.

it seems that the mini quad bikes are classified as "a regulated device", so they comform to the same noise restriction regulations as lawn mowers and whipper snippers.

by the looks of it the neighbours haven't a foot to stand on.

apparently over the other side of "the neighbors" there is a kid who rides a motorbike and gokart up and down the road at all hours(it is over the otherside of the hill so we don't really hear it). so it seems because of someone else doing the totally wrong thing, we get labelled as bad irresponsible people as well.

i do admit to have ran them a bit late until dark before. now i know the proper times, i won't let it happen again (they will have no grounds for future complaint). likewise for the lawnmower, which actually 2 of the "neighbours who complained" have gone outside of the allowable time period themselves on quite a few occasions...

what i might do is see if i can further muffle the kids bikes. i think that should be seen as doing the correct thing. as i said before it is not like we run them excessively, only 2 hours a week on average.

Where we are is pretty good, after those neighbours left we haven't had a problem. One side is a trucky, other side have a harly/modified cars so no one complains. A few mates came over for a party here one night we camped in the back yard (we're on 5 achres) music up loud all night drinking and stuff and no one cared!

If its within the hours don't worry about it.

kids are kids, dogs are dogs.

its just the same anyways as mowing a lawn.

people just exaggerrate things.

just complain to the council about there dogs noise and the fire hazzard grass.

Maybe they might relise they arent so perfect.

Well, we are the neighbours from hell, according to the bloke that lives next door from felix. Regular harley tuning, V8's, burnouts, loud music, big dogs, not to mention when I tune my dirt bike. But, we do this at respectable times; I think the latest we've had the music on til is 10-11ish. All this on a 728 block...

f@$k the neighbours. They can be right pricks as well, and if they want to be arses, we'll be an arse back.

*steps off soapbox*

Dan.
