kickn5k Posted August 9, 2012 Report Posted August 9, 2012 (edited) I almost decided to spend 3 grand on my 5k and make it a monster engine for Cop Bait, then bought a RWC/REGO 4AGE KE70 (AKA Peanut Bait) for $2900 instead. So many options Haha I have a quote for that just to get my cylinder head done. I'm still considering getting him to do it too, he is a guru. Your option looks more and more appealing now hey? Just noticed you are in Melbourne now. Keep an eye in the Vic section for events and cruises etc. Edited August 9, 2012 by kickn5k Quote
kenoath Posted August 9, 2012 Author Report Posted August 9, 2012 Well then sounds like 4age is a popular conversion for a reason. Was considering worked 4k or 3tc. So far I have been able to find flat cap tax free parts hopefully I can find some more. Ive been to a couple of car, coffee and donuts meets so far in my hyundai excel and I joined tccav. The rolla is booked in for RWC next wednesday I hope the mechanic doesn't find any expensive repairs that need to be done. Quote
Willis Posted August 10, 2012 Report Posted August 10, 2012 Well then sounds like 4age is a popular conversion for a reason. It is popular for a reason but I reckon with how much money I will have spent by the end of it I could have just gone BEAMS or SR20 etc and been done with it... Quote

I think carbed 4age is the cheapest and easiest way to go unless someone can prove otherwise. Considering rasing the compression ratio of the bigport to be the same as a small port and 272 cams, lightend flywheel and twin side draft carbs. Would this be a good value for money perfromance package? Quote
Willis Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Nice carburettors can be expensive. Then getting them tuned etc. But you wouldn't have to mess about with fuel systems... Engine conversions can be very expensive if you let them. I don't think carby would be any cheaper than EFI. Would sound really nice though. How are you raising the compression ratio? I didn't see that part anywhere.. Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) EFI is the cheapest option. Its a stock option on the engine, Stock loom, stock computer, plug it in, drive. The only real issue is the manifold and thermostat housing. Edited August 13, 2012 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
7shades Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 If I was going to bother actually building an engine, I'd go 7AGE, Because torks. Quote
Willis Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 If I were to bother paying someone to build one for me, I'd be using a 20v head too. Quote
kenoath Posted August 13, 2012 Author Report Posted August 13, 2012 How are you raising the compression ratio? I didn't see that part anywhere.. I would shave the head a little and get a trd head gasket. Twin Webers are about $400 2nd hand, a manifold to suit is $220. Then you can change how much fuel your engine is getting quite easily. A brand new set of webers manifold and jets installed to suit is $1499. Ecu $100 Loom $100 Intake $150 Efi fuel pump $100 surge tank $50. If you want to change how much fuel the engine is getting you need to purchase an aftermarket ecu and pay someone to tune it $1500+ EFI is the cheapest option. Its a stock option on the engine, Stock loom, stock computer, plug it in, drive. The only real issue is the manifold and thermostat housing. EFI is not the cheapest due to the ever increasing flat cap tax. Quote
Willis Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Just buy a complete motor or even a whole car. Save yourself some dollars and headaches trying to track everything down. And I don't really think flatcappers come into the equation at all. Look at Rian and Leo's (It's_AUDM_Yo) builds...EFI, done on a budget and no flatcaps to be seen. If you want to go carby then go carby but I think it would be as costly as EFI. If not more. Quote
It's_AUDM_Yo Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 (edited) EFI is not the cheapest due to the ever increasing flat cap tax. He means that its stock, ei: you don't have to spend all that extra on those other things. I have probably done one of the cheaper conversions in recent times its only cost me $700-800 to get the 4AGE in "running". But then I've spent that much again on suspension and brakes, Which its really needs unless your into drag racing.....but really who would you use a 4AGE 70 for that it wouldn't be the best choice. Trev Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 Still costs you a minimum of 1100 bucks to put twin webers on a 4ag, my 45's were 800 but I did a part trade with some 40's I had, then you have the manifold, filters, fuel pump and ignition system which I went with the hyperpak. Quote
Jono.C Posted August 13, 2012 Report Posted August 13, 2012 ^ Yup, Efi is actually cheaper unless you go some 32/36 weber or something, which lets be honest, why would you.. Cheap and cheerful fuel setup and cut and shut inlet you'll be laughing Quote
kenoath Posted August 15, 2012 Author Report Posted August 15, 2012 (edited) Okay so I got the list from the mechanic doing the RWC and it says: Front Blinker lenses cracked (Ordered) Lefthand rear taillight cracked (Ordered) reverse light is left hand rear not working windscreen chipped (booked in) front brake hoses cracked rear swaybar bushes (are fooked halp) rear drum shoes fitted incorrectly (haha my bad) (will fix tomorrow) Incorrect wheel nuts for alloy wheels Edited August 17, 2012 by kenoath Quote
