3S_ke Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Hey guys I'm asking I have a beams 3sge motor and I'm going to put it in a ke70 does anyone noe what gearbox i was thinking t50 or a supra celica but i don't noe if it will bolt up or if i need an adaptor plate or are there other gearboxes i can use that also will be strong as it will be my drift car Quote
Willis Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Yeah I wouldn't use a T50...Use the J160 that it's meant to be bolted to... Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Use the J160, chop the floor... its a drift pig you'll never rego anyway. Ratios are good and close! Couple of guys in Altezzaclub race other cars with the beams in. http://z4.invisionfree.com/lexusaltezzaclub/index.php?showforum=39 Quote
3S_ke Posted July 23, 2012 Author Report Posted July 23, 2012 Its going to be on road to lol which explains the headach I had Quote
Willis Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 ? Use the J160. I've seen one used in a road legal car before. Don't know if it was done before or after the car was cleared for rego though.. Quote
xmoht Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Its going to be on road to lol which explains the headach I had http://www.ae86drivingclub.com.au/forums/showthread.php/19394-Universal-3sge-(inc-Beams)-into-AE-KE-thread In this thread they talk at length about all the problems and solutions encountered with this engine conversion, including gear box. They also link to Bill Sherwood's AE86 Beams which is quite nicely done. Quote
3S_ke Posted July 25, 2012 Author Report Posted July 25, 2012 Hey one more question would I have to modify the firewall Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 25, 2012 Report Posted July 25, 2012 You will only find out when you do it... The further forward the motor is, the less you will have to worry about the bell-housing fitting. Naturally that will make the handling worse.. I think you will have to cut the tunnel to fit the J160 in there, but not the firewall to fit the motor in. Quote
3S_ke Posted July 28, 2012 Author Report Posted July 28, 2012 Cool cause I don't want to spend all my money and go to engineer it to he told no lol Quote
kickn5k Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 Cool cause I don't want to spend all my money and go to engineer it to he told no lol Which is why you should be consulting an engineer before you even buy an engine!!!!! 1 Quote
altezzaclub Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 Well, how much will you pay me to pull the 3SGE out of my Altezza and drop it into my KE70...?? Then I can tell you exactly! Quote
19914afc Posted July 28, 2012 Report Posted July 28, 2012 Ive seen J160 used behind 4age in an ae86 before so I dought it would be much of a problem. Quote
Twincam16seca Posted June 16, 2013 Report Posted June 16, 2013 Hi all, I know this is an old thread (about a year old) but I was also thinking AND have been researching the beams into ke/ae as I have a n AE71 csx auto, now the question I have is... Is the auto trans tunnel larger than the manual tunnel in the AE71? if so, would I still have to modify the trans tunnel or the firewall for the J160? Also what is the distance between the end of the bell housing and the centre of the shifter? My original plan was turbs 4agze with the jdm manifold, possibly a w58, as I have a mean diff built with big as ford brakes front and rear, so I kind of need an enging to match! haha and thats why the Beams and 6 speed has been going round and round my head because its good power out the box and would be sweet with a turbo hanging off the side too (later on if I so desired). Any help would be great! Quote
