CaptainL Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Since i have problem with my 4th gear synchro today i decide to make a round to my local scrap ward! So i find 2 gearboxes! Both of them has hydraulic clutch , 5 gears , same 22 spline output shaft and is identically same...and ofcource has the toyota emblem! I decide to open one of them to check it from inside.....(first time) :jason: thats the result!! The big problem its that i don't know what code is and if it suitable form my engine(4age). From inside i can see that it is in a good condition...i think! Can anyone recognize it? Quote
corollaart Posted July 21, 2012 Report Posted July 21, 2012 Its a t50 ,proberly out of a early celica going by the shifter position and bell housing.(ta22)so it would have a t engine bell housing. As for fitting up to 4a engine you would have to change the bell housing, which i think can be done not 100% on that. The gear box looks ok ,was there any metal in it? Quote
troyota Posted July 22, 2012 Report Posted July 22, 2012 If you are a complete novice....Some simple things to check are. Metal in the oil, or metalic residue is always expected, it depends on what degree/percentage. Lift the gear set out, check all roller bearings for noise. Look at each gears dog teeth (the little teeth on top of the gear and under the Gold colored Syncro Rings). The Dog gears should be shaped like this ^ (allow for wear of course) some rounding is to be expected. You should also inspect the sleeve (the round thing that slides over the gold things that slides over the dog gear) , it will also have teeth that should look like this ^. Wear of the Sleeve,Syncro & Dog Teeth will typically be the main reason a gearbox is hard to select gears. Bear in mind this is a very basic visual check only. Good Luck ! Quote
