It's_AUDM_Yo Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Ok so the 4AGE I bought had no exhaust manifold and no bolts or nuts for it. So here is the dilemma I bought some high tensile M10 x 1.25 35mm (or 45mm can't remember of the top of my head I can check though). Will those do the job? The nuts thread on fine. But the bolts are quite firm. ei can barely be twisted by hand. I am shit scared of snapping them in the block! Is their something I can do to make it a bit easier/safer? Many thanks! Trev Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 You should never insert bolts into an aluminium head in this scenario, get a 10x1.25 tap and give them a clean out and then if you can, get some studs. 3 Quote
It's_AUDM_Yo Posted July 17, 2012 Author Report Posted July 17, 2012 Cheers Trev Ok I'll give it a clean with the tap. I thought you ran bolts in these ones as the 3 studs up the top look un-removably. Do you reckon I will be able to get them through Toyota? And would you just put some Loctite on the new studs? Last one do you reckon the the high tensile nuts from super-shit will do the job? Quote
irokin Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 get some studs. For sure! FWIW SR20 exhaust manifold studs are M10x1.25 too (~$5ea genuine). Get some top lock nuts (distorted thread) and you'll be sorted. Might need some of these too (cast iron washers): http://www.frsport.com/Genuine-OEM-Nissan-Head-to-Manifold-Yoke-Spacer-KA24DE-SR20DET_p_8078.html Quote
irokin Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 And would you just put some Loctite on the new studs? It wont survive. High temp stuff is only good to ~230°C Quote
ke70dave Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 spring washers are the go on exhausts. 1 Quote
Trev Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 spring washers are the go on exhausts. This, or you can get actual flanged exhaust nuts but it depends where you go. Quote
irokin Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 spring washers are the go on exhausts. Mine gets hot enough to reset the metal. Every time I've tried them they've been absolutely useless. I'm sure I've still got a few flattened spring washers around here somewhere. Quote
It's_AUDM_Yo Posted July 17, 2012 Author Report Posted July 17, 2012 Bloody awesome guys! What are the cast iron washers for? If the stud isn't the correct length? I'll go to Toyota/Nissan tomorrow Grab some spring washers and nuts as well at some point. If anyone happend to know the Torque setting that would be sick! Quote
troyota Posted July 17, 2012 Report Posted July 17, 2012 If anyone requires Exhaust studs or Proper exhaust nuts, i can help. Please PM me Quote

They retain the manifold and stay in one piece with heat. Quote
