TheMick Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Hi folk, I hope some one can help me. In the process of making my AE92 a nicer car, I have come across a problem that I can't get my head around. Here are the details. The plate reads. TOYOTA COROLLA SECA ENG - 4A-FC MODEL - AE92 - LH LFA-PS TRANS - A131L BUILT - 07/90 CAP - 1587..... and so on. What's puzzling me is the cover on the engine. Whats going on there? Is that cover a ring-in? It reads "Toyota 16 Valve EFI". Is there a stamp on it somewhere I can look, so I can confirm the type of motor this car has got, and I can get the right parts. If any one can help me it would be very much appreciated. Quote
ATOYOTA Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Reedy knows. I think he said it's right down the bottom, at the back, by the flywheel or summing. Hey Reed... REED! PHONE! Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 (edited) That's on a 4age, no idea about these engines. It's a 4afc engine I'd assume, considering that's what it says on the plate after ENG. Looks like someone has put a 4afe rrocker cover on it. Edited June 27, 2012 by B.L.Z.BUB Quote
TheMick Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 Thanks guys. I was sort of thinking that. Quote
Ben-89 Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 Its a 4afc as the compliance plate suggests, but in its life time someone has put the efi rocker cover on. The "c" denotes california spec carburettor for emision regulations. And "a131" equates to automatic - 3 speed. Quote
ATOYOTA Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 The 4A-FC and 4A-GE's have the same block though, don't they? Don't see why it'd be any different, being Toyota and all. Quote
Ben-89 Posted July 1, 2012 Report Posted July 1, 2012 The 4a shares the same bore but the AE93 smallport 4age's have more ribbing in the blocks for rigidity. I think its 7 ribs opposed to 3 on the average block. AE82 Bigport blocks were 3 ribbed I believe... The "fe" head was narrower and so was the valve angle, still twincam but driven by scissor gears from camshaft which had the timing belt cog. They are an economy motor but can be improved with upgrades however there is limited info out there and its more logical to use a 4age as it has the better head to accomodate all the mods that can be done it. TheMick Posted July 1, 2012 Author Report Posted July 1, 2012 Much thanks for everyones help. I fixed the problem by using a hacksaw and cutting off the EFI part of that badge. Quote
