azzy_10 Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 are standard corolla k motors leaded or unleded motors ? Quote
frosty Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 You could say leaded - they used to run on 'standard' fuel as opposed to 'super' but most on here are way too young to know that. ;) Quote
B.L.Z.BUB Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Why? It shouldnt matter, a K motor will run on cough medicine. Quote
Hiro Protagonist Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 They have hardened valve seats and an alloy head, thus are fine to run on unleaded (run 95 to be safe though, and don't use E10) Japan had unleaded fuel long before us.... Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 I've used E10 95octane from the independent station nearby for the last few years. Currently I'm in Cairns for a few months, so from2500ft down to sea level, and I've just tried $20 of 91 this week. It doesn't pink, which I expected, but does run-on a little when turned off, just a couple of coughs. I'll probably go back to 95 for the 2500km trip back South next week. That's on a skimmed head for compression in the high 9s, carbs and a cam. Quote
azzy_10 Posted June 20, 2012 Author Report Posted June 20, 2012 mmk well I'm running 98 and shoved an octane booster the other week i have a 3k-c with a 4k bosch dizzy set to 8btdc Quote
azzy_10 Posted June 20, 2012 Author Report Posted June 20, 2012 love the cough medicine i might try it and send you a bill from the mechanics Quote
parrot Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 It's on the interweb, so it must be true Quote
coln72 Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 mmk well I'm running 98 and shoved an octane booster the other week i have a 3k-c with a 4k bosch dizzy set to 8btdc Sorry, IMO you are wasting money. You shouldnt need 98 octane in a standard K motor. You could say leaded - they used to run on 'standard' fuel as opposed to 'super' but most on here are way too young to know that. ;) Ahh those were the days, leaded fuel :) Quote
altezzaclub Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Ahh those were the days, leaded fuel Much too dangerous, it was killing everyone! Except you will find as many death certificates listing "Died from lead in petrol" as you will find "Died from second-hand cigarette smoke".... Quote
snot35 Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 Like you can legally obtain and burn leaded fuel anyway. Quote
irokin Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 Like you can legally obtain and burn leaded fuel anyway. You can get Sunoco leaded, starts at over $7/L though. Except you will find as many death certificates listing "Died from lead in petrol" as you will find "Died from second-hand cigarette smoke".... Marvelous straw man, bravo! Quote
ke70dave Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 To much tax on cigarettes to change that though. Cigarettes have been shown extensively to be a major cause of cancer, so we are going to make the packaging plain that will stop them BUT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD GET RID OF ALL THE LEADED PETROL WE DON'T WANT ANYONE USING THAT STUFF BAN IT BAN IT! hmm people still buying cigarettes, you had better put them in a cupboard behind the counter, that will stop them. parrot Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 I used to run an old Datsun 1600 with way to much compression on avgas. Back then there was a servo in Footscray where you could buy it on pump! Much easier than heading out to Essendon airport with a 44 gallon drum which is what I did before I found out. Is aviation fuel still leaded? Quote
irokin Posted June 21, 2012 Report Posted June 21, 2012 Is aviation fuel still leaded? Yes, Avgas 100 (100/130) and 100LL are both still leaded. Avgas 100 has about 0.7-1.4g/L and 100LL has about 0.4-0.7g/L of lead. (ref: BP Air MSDS) Quote
