They are purty too. I did dads FJ20ET conversion for around $6K engineered(I know it's not a rolla). Sure it is a stock low km engine but I made the old man buy the best of everything except the $150 eBay intercooler! I did everything myself except wiring(had a mate do it for a slab of Jimmy) and exhaust, which saves a heap. If you don't care about using a Nissan engine, I wouldn't discount going CA18DET. People nearly give them away after going SR and with some minor love engine wise are pretty reliable, add some bolt on perf goodies and they make good power too. Quote

Sure there are better platforms out there but you can still make more than decent power out of an RB20. I had a lengthy chinwag with Jono.C about it all. People just think if it isn't an RB25/26/30DET then it isn't worth their time and it just isn't true. There are more gains to be had modifying a 25/26/30DET but it doesn't mean the RB20's an anchor... Quote

But depending on what car both of those engines are going into, they're more trouble than they're worth. If I owned an R32 and it had the RB20 in it, I'd stick with it. More than enough power with very few mods. And vice versa for the S chassis' I'm more talking about people that say "Oh, why waste your time and money, just go RB25 and be done with it" like the 25 is some miracle, godlike creation impervious to anything and everything. I reckon the 20's a greatly under rated motor. Does anyone know what the 20 and 25 head designs are like in comparison?? One of my friends is building what I think is going to be a pretty serious RB20, pushing 30+psi through it (not sure what turbo he'll be using though), headwork, cams, will end up around the 2.2/2.3L mark and when he's told people he's building an RB20 and hoping for around 500hp (at the motor), they've just told him he'll never get those numbers from it. They refused to think it was possible. Like I said before, I know that the 25 is better bang for buck etc but I want to get to the bottom of this RB20 hatefest. Capacity can't make too much of a difference if it's at 2.2/2.3L can it? Just where it actually makes the power? Edited June 16, 2012 by Willis Quote
