The new calipers require an adapter plate? or do they bolt straight up?

I'm doing a VT caliper and disc conversion to my torana in the next couple monhts (using a CNC stub axle and custom hub, 2 piece disc with hat drilled to torana stud)

Next step from standard VT stuff is obviously upgrade options for the VT, but need to then look at how it fits (or doesnt) with the torana front end components.

yeah they run a custom calliper mount bracket, a control piece from davey metal industries in melbourne that cost $100, yeah that will be cool, god i love your torana haha

yeah, its a bit gay, every thing on the car that i have had to buy has cost a fortune as its all control stuff, could have built the car to be faster than a saloon car at about half the price of what it cost, but it will be worth it when its done :y:

This is true, but when you get into a controlled class such as saloon cars the control items is what makes the racing so close and so much fun. what sucks is when you are racing with said components but are still under powered or ill-handling and the guy's that are on the money won't let you in on the secrets.

But it's the game we play and you'll keep learning till you get to the front. I've been chasing power for the last couple of months because I'm ok in the corners but lacking down the straights have got some different heads and we'll see how that goes but you ask the lead guys as to what makes these things tick and there all hush hush, I supose they have already spent thousands of dollars and plenty of time learning the secrets they want to keep the edge for as long as they can!!

yeah i completely agree, its a pain but it wouldn't be as good as it is if it wasn't like it is, but yeah i'm gonna be in the same boat, after i'll be racing against people who have up to $40,000 cars in my lets say $12,000 car, doesn't really sound fair, and most of them have alot of experience with their cars, i went along to the june round at winton last year, i was starting my build, nobody would even talk to me, apart from harley pheelan was nice and let me look at his cage to get an idea of what i was doing.

like rowse motors build quiet a few cars, and with there vt, they have their own engine dyno, so they have unlimited time on it, and they charge about the cost of my whole car for one of there engines.

my car is being built to basically the bare minimum that i can have to get into the series, at the moment iv'e still got about $4000 to spend before i can get into it, at the moment i'm a few seconds off what half the field is getting at winton, but i don't have big brakes, i still need the piston that are a touch higher comp, and thats the smallest amount i can do to the engine, then i could spend another $6000 on the engine with the rest of the crap thats "permitted", alot of them run about a $5000 gearset, my gearbox is a standard one that cost $500, i could probably do with a fuel surge tank, and e85 would help too, but even without all that i think i could make that up mostly in just getting more laps in, then a fresh set of tyres would help too.

and then just spending time setting up the car, and getting to drive it to get the hang of it, but i think i'm doing ok for now, after all i'm not even 18 yet and have only been racing for a year or two in the sprints.

at least iv'e got allot of things i can do to make up time :y:

off to winton tomorrow to watch the saloon cars, and the v8 touring cars, should be fun to watch, they are having qualy, top ten shootout and the a 30 lap race with a manditory pit stop and same race on sunday, only going saturday though. they usually have 3 races around 10 laps each.

i'll get back into the vt next week as iv'e finished the stuff i was doing to the corona :y:

spent a while today testing out gauges and senders, i have a box of gauges and senders but not many work, tacho is wired up, and the water temp and oil pressure gauges are almost wired up, just have 1 wire to run, should be good and look a bit cooler :y:

Funny you mention rowse they are the heads that I just bought worked a treat too just finished a race weekend out at Morgan Park and managed to get my first race win and a 3rd for the overall round. Fair enough the top guys were at the Winton nationals but a wins, a win! and it picked up the performance and put me in the game.

I still run a rebuilt standard box and yea the gear set last i checked is $7500 for the phitzner. If you have a track with low speed corners the longer 2nd gear really helps you out I notice the guys with the good gear-set jump me out of the low speed corners but if the corner is fast enough to use 3rd and you get a good run you catch them as they change gears and sometimes it evens out.

One thing I can highly recommend is look into a surge tank and a baffled sump, these engines are known to starve the oil pickup in long high g corners and the same rule applies to the fuel system many an engine has died due to lack of oil or fuel leaning out the engine when running anything less than half a tank of fuel. also a good excuse to look at an e85 setup most guys run e85 mainly just to be able to lean on the tune more before detonation than regular pump 98.

thats great to hear mate, well done, yeah the gears are very expensive, yeah winton is half second gear corners, yeah it would be good as mine is too short in second gear, but in third gear it doesn't really have enough power to pull it, my box is getting pretty tired, not liking changing into 3rd and didn't wanna come out of 4th a few times, i'll get one to rebuild one day, or rebuild the one thats in it

i didn't think there was a whole lot that could be done to the heads, apart from being shaved and bigger valves, theres not really much porting that you can do, am i missing something?

i wan't to do a surge tank asap, and i might look at baffling the sump when i pull the motor out to get it sealed,

again congrats on your win :y:

You can't do much, but there is definitely power in what you can do and You can't actually use the bigger valves as the rules dictate you have to use the smaller ones and porting/ throating the heads didn't seem to make them work any better either, I think start with the right head casting the one with the crowns on the front and from looking at the rowse heads they are still quite rough, the port throat seems untouched but they play with valve seat angles and the radius of the valve stem. whatever there doing it works well on my car and I couldn't figure out the secrets doing it myself so I just bought it from them!

yeah there is alot of little things that can be done, yeah my heads have the crowns on the front :y: but i'm sure that my heads have bigger valves than maybe an earlier ecotec, but the rules still say i can have bigger ones, and i think you can only port near the valve from what the rules say, would be awesome if you could port the crap out of the heads...

Dashboard looks sweet with the saas gauges!,, I'm gettin some! can't wait till were on the track.....

thanks mate, will you be racing at winton?
