glenpos Posted April 7, 2013 Author Report Posted April 7, 2013 yeah iv'e been wanting to do the front end for a while now, i borrowed a mates mig, and i have to pull the power steering pump and rack out so might look at doing it then, i was going to mod the struts, but i need to get the saloon car ones so wont bother doing that until i get them, would be great if you could get a few pics, cheers Quote
glenpos Posted April 10, 2013 Author Report Posted April 10, 2013 hey guys, iv'e pulled the power steering pump and the rack out, i'm thinking that the valve thats in the pump is stuffed, or the seals on the shaft that connects to the steering column are leaking, will have a bit more of a look today anyways, also pulled the bottom bolt out of the strut to look at camber, should be easy to do, will probably slot the holes and weld washers over them in the next week, looked alot better with some camber haha, also got a new fixed back race seat, just have to make up some mounts :) Quote
glenpos Posted April 15, 2013 Author Report Posted April 15, 2013 hey guys, got a few bits done, i gave the rack a clean up and put it back in, and got a pump off a mates car and got the power steering working again, also mate up seat mounts, forgot to get pics of it in the car though, also made a mount for my power steering cooler i got off a mate, just have to run hoses, so will finish that off tomorrow :) also smashed my old pwr steering reservoir open because i couldn't find the melted plastic. found it haha, it had melted the filter out of its place also haha and the rack, had a pedders sticker on it and has blue boots on it, and the oil cooler, again forgot to get pics of it on the cars haha so should be all good this time :P Quote
Mark90 Posted April 16, 2013 Report Posted April 16, 2013 I didn't even know it was possible for power steering fluid to get that hot... Solid effort lol Quote
glenpos Posted April 16, 2013 Author Report Posted April 16, 2013 yeah i got some skills haha, i think the new pump is pretty stuffed, its quiet and works when i first start the car, then gets noisy and starts to get notchey and then stops working until i turn it off, then once it cools it then does the same again, so think i'm gonna try putting the valve in my old pump that appears to be all good apart from the valve, and if it keeps doing it i'll pull the rack completely apart and check everything, and if i can't fix it i'll replace the rack, everything else looks perfect. Getting sick of power steering... Quote
sebsta Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 hi mate awesome build :) nice work on the car and sounds amazing in person ;) ( i was out at winton in feb) cheers Quote
glenpos Posted April 18, 2013 Author Report Posted April 18, 2013 hi mate awesome build :) nice work on the car and sounds amazing in person ;) ( i was out at winton in feb) cheers thanks mate :) awesome, were you driving? hopefully it will go better this time, i adjusted the fuel map, it went to 4500 and then it started to get less fuel for more rpm, so hopefully it will go even better up high now :D Quote
sebsta Posted April 18, 2013 Report Posted April 18, 2013 thanks mate :) awesome, were you driving? hopefully it will go better this time, i adjusted the fuel map, it went to 4500 and then it started to get less fuel for more rpm, so hopefully it will go even better up high now :D no i wasn't driven but my dad and sister were in the red datsun 280zx ( the slow one) but will be driving at phillip island next week ;), sweet as , is it easy to tune ? i am trying to find the best ecu to run ITBs in the track car iam building , keep up the good work cheers Quote
glenpos Posted April 18, 2013 Author Report Posted April 18, 2013 thats cool, my dad is in the background in the gold ea hahaha, the ea was slow, yeah its not bad, but mine is a custom saloon car one that is sealed, so can't adjust a few things, but still can do fuel and ign maps etc, but i haven't played with one before and don't have a dyno, but just play with it and see how it goes,i guess any ecu is in the same boat, but you can get stinger 4424's for about $500 second hand Quote
glenpos Posted April 19, 2013 Author Report Posted April 19, 2013 hello, playing with the front end atm, iv'e marked out where i want to slot them too, then will take them down to a mates and borrow his mig, front has a little bit more than the back, just misses and i can adjust the top out if iu have to Quote
glenpos Posted April 21, 2013 Author Report Posted April 21, 2013 hello, did the struts on saturday and put them in yesterday, looks heaps better :P gave them a quick coat of paint much better Quote
CNL Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 Hi Again Looks like your ticking off the boxes for your next meet thought I'd get back to you with some pic's of my struts for comparison. I'm running around 4.5deg neg camber and max track width from the k-frame and strut hole placement also lowered considerably by holes and strut top machining. As you can see I'm on the edge of what you can do with the standard strut plate I have considered making a complete replacement plate for better strength but have not got around to designing it yet. good luck with the setup. glenpos Posted April 25, 2013 Author Report Posted April 25, 2013 hey mate, for some reason the pics haven't worked, yeah i just did as much as i could without k-frame mods, i'll look at doing that once i get the saloon car struts, iv'e just made a new exhaust, sounds better and has a bigger muffler now, also iv'e been wondering whats needed to get it sealed, as in i'm guessing i will need to take the motor, gearbox and diff out? and do you have an idea of the cost of it? cheers glen Quote
CNL Posted April 26, 2013 Report Posted April 26, 2013 Sorry still getting use to the forum had the gallery on friends only pic's should work now. as for the sealing generally they like to have the box & Diff out but I'm sure it can be done in car you should ask your local sealer as to weather he will pass it in car. but as far as i know the engine needs to be sealed as it is put together so the sealer can inspect all engine components are per the rules i.e. pistons, cam, ect. talk to you saloon car state manager to find a sealer close to you I'm sure there is one in VIC list of state managers is at http://www.salooncars.net.au.
