Falken_KE30 Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 hahhahaha, u reckon umm well i got a 3k head as off tommorow, and i just gotta find a 4k block..or rebuild mine, dunno yet explains the lag down low, oil build up on top off piston, Quote
love ke70 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 spose u got that head free aswell didnt u ?!?! lol can have my block, postage could be a bit :P Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 lol, not really, well actually...i got the pedders shocks free, but I'm trading em, for the head, so in a way YES it was free hmmm can't wait to pull down the engine, Quote
Felix Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 a stock 4k in good nick should be around 160-170 psi per pot. my old tuned 4k, with 9.8:1 CR and a 25/65 cam put out 160-165psi per pot after 3 1/2 years of hard work, daily driven. Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 26, 2006 Author Report Posted January 26, 2006 yeah, sounds bout right, so my motor is truely worn lol o well, will get hold of a better 4k block, got a 3k head as off tommorow, will get new spark plugs, oil filter etc etc, gasket set.. should run heaps better, Quote
Felix Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 go for it. the wreckers i went to the other day only wanted $125 for a 4k with 30 day warranty. cheap as... Quote
love ke70 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 id say just rebuild the mofo, no 4k block you buy is gonna have anywhere near a good compression test result, most have done bazilions of k's and had their tits thrashed off by young people like us, just rebuild and be safe in the knowledge that shes a good block Quote
Felix Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 rebuild so long as it doesn't need an overbore. if you can get by with a simple hone and rering, go for it. once you have to start reboring, and adding up the price of new pistons etc, the price goes up dramatically. Quote
love ke70 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 oh, definitely! i didnt even think of that, i would never consider it lol although i wonder how far you could stretch a 4k. then again, why not use a 5k, or 7k, and improve on the improved....now I'm thinking lol Quote
Felix Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 if you go beserk on a k engine, it is not that hard to spend near as much as what it would take to do a conversion. i know of a few people who have spent around 2 grand on a 4k. Quote
love ke70 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 and it prob doesnt make what a stock 4a would at the wheels, definitely not as reliably anyway. Quote
Teddy Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 You can bore a 4k out to 5k specs lol. No, i didnt say anything about a warrenty. I know its been done before :P Quote
love ke70 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 interesting teddy...why didnt they just get a 5k? and i spose you can turn a 5k into a 7k if u try? Quote
Redwarf Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 (edited) if you go beserk on a k engine, it is not that hard to spend near as much as what it would take to do a conversion. i know of a few people who have spent around 2 grand on a 4k. Hey! I resemble that remark! My 3/4K banged out 180-190 when fresh. 10.9 cr. I don't think it does that now after 3 years of raping. and it prob doesnt make what a stock 4a would at the wheels, definitely not as reliably anyway. Ummmm..... No. That engine would definitely have more stick than a 4A. A 4A woukd also have not tolerated the "spirited driving" that this engine has put up with. Edited January 26, 2006 by Redwarf Quote
love ke70 Posted January 26, 2006 Report Posted January 26, 2006 lol just spent 10 minutes trying to work out what the 180-190 meant, come to the conclusion your talking PSI yes? Quote
