Rolla__Boy Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 How much power did it have at the wheels? Quote
TRD ke70 Posted January 27, 2006 Report Posted January 27, 2006 I think you guys missed my pointYes the crank diameter is different but that is just machining. The lump of steel used for block and heads is basically the same with pot centres identical in all k motors i know what you're saying. but if you measure up a 7k against a 5k you'll find that the blocks are different heights. with a 7k crank in a 5k block the rods hit the bottom of the bores. to fit the crank you'd have to machine a lot of meat out of the bottom of the bore so the rods clear, thus weakening the block too much. love ke70 Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 felix: that sounds pretty tough :P may not be a dyno queen, but she sure would do alright in the ke15 me thinks :y: did you ever get power figures off that? Quote
Felix Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 no, never dynoed. did all my tuning with a stopwatch and later an Air/Fuel mixture meter. i lived in Ipswich, bogan central for south east QLD. pretty much an endless supply of gung-ho meat heads out to prove the worth of the mighty falcadore to compare with. :y: Quote
love ke70 Posted January 28, 2006 Report Posted January 28, 2006 doing timing with a stopwatch. i never met the good ol' days :y: lol Quote
Falken_KE30 Posted January 28, 2006 Author Report Posted January 28, 2006 well, got the head off today, head is rooted.. few q's 1, what causes the valves to go white? 2, why should i use 4k rocker gear in the 3k head? 3, how do i clean up the water ports and stuff? gunna rebuild the 4k i reckon, the 3k bigport head is going in to get a shave, inlet port match for head and weber, a 3 angle valve grind thingy. bottom end, either rebuild, or find a 5k block! Trent-KE30 Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 If your taking the head into get surface ground, they should clean the head up for you, at least that's what we do, At work we have a spraywash bin (that we manufacture as well), for all alloy stuff, cleans heads and anything alloy pretty good. Rolla__Boy Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 a ke30 is around 20% heavier than a ke15. normal ke15's weigh 715kg. my old 4k (which was a late dished piston version) i got for free. it was a low kay jap import engine in perfect condition. i simply added a few reliability mods...shimmed oil pump bypass spring and double row timing chain. i shimmed valve springs to let it rev harder. let it breathe better at higher revs with minor porting, and bowl work . i had the head skimmed to up the standard compression from 9.5:1 to 9.8:1 and a 3 angle valve job. added a reground cam selected for the broadest possible power band with peak HP at around 7500 rpm. the car had pacemaker 4 into 1's and a 1 7/8" system. i also ran a 28/36 DCD weber which provides better drivability, economy, tunability, and way more power than stock. the dizzy was a recurved bosch item. nothing fancy, just a good overall balanced package with more time than money put into it. it gave 35mpg and was quicker than your average 6 falcadore in a light ke15. A KE30 weighs 800 kilos, which is about 10% heavier. So if you raced with a passenger, it would be the same as having your engine in a KE30. Would it/has it, easily beaten a commodore with a passenger in with you? Quote
Redwarf Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 Dude, what Toyota says a car weighs, and what they really weigh, are often two different things. I estimate my 55 Hardtop to be around 950 - 1000kgs. My 25 is 840kgs. A 30 ain't lighter than my 25. Quote
Felix Posted January 29, 2006 Report Posted January 29, 2006 my car would run 0-100kays in 8.65 seconds in testing. i worked out the speed from calculations involving tacho, tyre diameter and gearing. also driving beside new cars at night and getting the missus to check out their speedo. Would it/has it, easily beaten a commodore with a passenger in with you? yep on dozens of occasions much to the missus disgust. LOL. really me carrying 2 passengers would be closer to the weight of a ke30 with just a driver. a ke15 is a hell of a lot smaller than a porky ke30. my old '75 ke30 2 door sedan (which are the lightest of the ke3x) had 860kgs on the rego papers which coincides with figures i have seen. jonny rochester (if he means anything to you) had his ke35(te37) weighed after a 2tg conversion and it was 950 kgs. seriously i don't care if you can't accept how it went. fook and superjamie have been in it, when it had the 4k. ask them how they think it went.... Teddy Posted January 30, 2006 Report Posted January 30, 2006 lol.. everything has to relate to "does it beat my full sic neibours VN?" Doug, your car hauls ass. No question about that. Quote
