I have a AE92 1.6L seca, 5sp 4cyl, i'm just wondering what motors could be put in this beast of a car, to me it's lacking alot, i want speed and acceleration (open to idea's but must be P Plate legal QLD)

I want alot more oomph when the pedal hits the floor :P

Also this model is carby so yeah.

Any and all tips are appreciated!

Cheers

P.S - If you need i can pop a picture of my current engine/engine bay, and a glamour shot of the body. =]

Welcome to rollaclub!

You could either sell your AE92 and buy an AE93, which has the 4AGE motor, and the close ratio C52 gearbox, which is noticeably zippier than the 4AFC c50 combo you have. Or buy a crashed AE93 and swap the running gear in.

Sell what you've got, put a bit of extra money aside and buy a seca sx (ae93) with the 4age. Fairly common, ideal base to start with, p plate legal in standard form which responds well to mods. Its not worth the bother of swapping all that gear into a lower spec one, as I said they do come up fairly frequently its a matter of finding one you want.

Thanks for the pointers, I'm so attached to my seca, i'd be sad to see it go even if it was for the next model up, but i will do some research and get some prices, what do 4age AE93's sell for?

And also, a friend of mine told me a celica motor would fit into an AE92 is this true?

Edit*: getting new 17" chrome wheels for it today, but if i do upgrade i can swap them over too :P

You'll find them between $2000 and $5000 depending on condition. As for the celica engine, it will fit. But how much work is involved is questionable. Also this would not not be 'P' plate legal.

What makes the celica engine not P plate friendly?

Also, new rims on, not sure if i like them yet, got them for 300 with tyres so can't complain.

If you put an engine in a vehicle that it did not come factory with, it's an engine conversion. Requiring an engineers certifacte this is a modification and therefore no P plate friendly.

hmm I wouldn't of thought thats a P-plate rule thanks for the knowledge :)

So, currently I'm casually employed, still doing study's, what could be some legal mods i could do for some more oomph? can't really afford to get another car at this point in time

Instead of getting more power out a the 4AFC (which is like beating a dead camel to go faster) you should invest in lighter rims and reduce the weight of the car. Youd be surprised how much quicker it would go with a set of light 14's or 15's with a tyre that has a slightly smaller rolling diameter than stock. But in saying that, don't expect it to be anywhere near 4AGE level after doing so lol

Sell the chrome wheels on ebay, get your money back.

Put that money into a savings account, put current Seca on the market.

Combine money from selling car, with money from selling ugly wheels + some extra savings from casual work.

Buy $2000-$3000 SX seca or hatch and never look back.

To be honest, it sounds like you don't have much experience in the way of mechanical work, so even a basic (4age) engine conversion is probably out of the question, plus there is the associated costs.

Buying a 4AGE model AE9X chassised car is the only way you will get a decent level of performance, be P plate legal and not waste your money

Yeah well I'm trying to learn some mechanical knowledge, seeing as though my father left me at a young age so i didnt have anyone with mechanical skills, so i learn to teach myself as i go, and yeah,

I'm not sure on what price i should be asking for my seca,

It has: 220,000km's. 5 sp manual decent paint work apart from the roof and bonnet, (patchy gloss job from previous owner), one tiny tiny rust hole in the corner of the drivers door, and some minor surface rust on the roof creases (minuscule).

I thank you for your input, learning new things alot, i appreciate it!

i'll keep my eye out for some sx seca's and post the link and let you guys give me a hand yeah?

:)

EDIT: Found this in my home town.. Yeah? looks like a bargain thoughts? http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/allenstown/cars/cheap-car-4-sale-/1002051301
