kazzpog33 Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 just bought new set of mains and conrad bearing... but i was not able to crank it by hand after installing it in my 3k.. is it normal since it is new and no oil yet? just wondering how to adjust valve clearance if crank feels locked up and can't rotate...anyway it is all standard size.. thanks!..cheers!. kickn5k Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 If you can't rotate it by hand, it's waaayyyyyy too tight!!! Thats with out the spark plugs in it right? You'll have to pull it down and go stupid cleaning everything. Might just be some crap caught behind the shells. Quote
ke70dave Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 did you plastiguage the bearings etc? and put plenty of assembly lube type stuff on any rotating bits? Quote
altezzaclub Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 I had the same thing initially as I just put stock size mains and bigends back on the crank. I never had it dipped to clean the tar off and the new bearings were a fraction of a mm wider, which was enough to grip the tar at the edge of the crank journal. It looked like nothing, but when it had been cleaned it was fine. Quote
Evan G Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 Main caps on wrong way? Should be tang facing tang Quote
kazzpog33 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Report Posted May 11, 2012 the main caps have numbers 1 to 5 and arrows on it so i think its just fine.. conrad caps have numbers 1 and 3 only... i don't know if my daughter shuffle it in the garage.. any idea on that?... just new on this... what you mean tang facing tang? thanks!!! kazzpog33 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Report Posted May 11, 2012 the k was sitting on the stand... no head, no sump... just block, and the rest of what rotates inside.. Quote
Evan G Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 just under neath the top bolt hole there is a tang. make sure they are faceing eachother Quote
kazzpog33 Posted May 11, 2012 Author Report Posted May 11, 2012 ok... I'm going to take some pic tommorow... I'm not confident that my conrad caps are in right position... standard size should be rotated by hand right? unless the store give me undersize... Quote
Evan G Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 If they were the wrong bearings aka over/under size they wouldn't fit or you'll be able to tell Quote
love ke70 Posted May 11, 2012 Report Posted May 11, 2012 how hard are you trying to turn it? did you plastigauge bearings? did you use assembly lube? Quote

love ke70 Posted May 19, 2012 Report Posted May 19, 2012 the caps are stamped on the sides what rod they go with, maybe you should be checking this Quote
kazzpog33 Posted May 23, 2012 Author Report Posted May 23, 2012 is that stamp factory stadard? i saw that firts caps don't have, the 2nd one has 1 dot, the 3rd has two and the fourth piston has 3... it looks that it was hammered by nail or something... Quote
corollaart Posted May 24, 2012 Report Posted May 24, 2012 Didnt come with factory stamps ,but the general rule is mark 1 to 4 both cap and rod with a centre punch on camshaft side. Maybe they marked 1to 3 and didnt mark the 4th?? Should always mark them as you pull them out ,that way you can be sure. rob Quote
